In a Saturday meeting with his newly announced Hispanic advisory council, Donald Trump suggested he is interested in figuring out a “humane and efficient” manner to deal with immigrants in the country illegally, according to three sources. Trump, however, stressed that any new announcements will still be in line with the border security-focused approach that has invited intense opposition from Latinos and immigrants since he launched his campaign.
“He said people who are here is the toughest part of the immigration debate, that it must be something that respects border security but deals with this in a humane and efficient manner,” said Jacob Monty, a Houston-based immigration lawyer who sat in Trump Tower with other Latino supporters and Trump.
“The idea is we’re not getting someone in front of the line, we’re doing it in a legal way, but he wants to hear ideas of how we deal with 11 million people that are here with no documents,” said Jose Fuentes, who was chair of Mitt Romney’s Hispanic advisory committee in 2012, and attended the meeting.
Importantly, Trump did not explicitly use the word “legalization,” but sources in the room said they feel it is the direction the campaign is going.
You know what's great about this?
If his stance turns out to be nothing but the same except in prettier language, he's not going to win over anyone.
If his stance changes, he still won't win over a lot of people (because his previous comments will still stand and he'll still be a racist idiot) but he'll lose support from the alt-righters and /pol/ people.
He cannot win doing this, I believe. Which is perfectly fine by me.
i wonder if that stuff about the campaign turning into "let trump be trump" was so they could have him pivot towards being a bit more presidential (this, trying to appeal to black voters, saying he regrets some of the stuff he said) and say "see? he's not a bad guy!"
conway was quick to point out that his comment about regrets was "all trump"
Oh a news article from Buzzfeed, that's great. I'm surprised they didn't say Trump had a Final Solution to the Mexican Question or something. Maybe 10 shocking ways Trump is literally Hitler.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of them will excuse it as "smart politics".
Besides, if you've reached /pol/ levels of depravity, there's no way that you're going to lose enough trust in Trump to end up voting for the Libertarians (or obviously the Democrats).
Appealing more to moderate Republicans and trying to play up his anti-establishmentarianism to steal votes from Clinton (who is pretty damn unpopular in her own merit) is what he should have done from the beginning. Instead he dug himself deeper because he overused his mouth and underused his brain. It's too little, too late for a pivot now.

That's what happens when you "Pivot" with Two months left of campaign, (one If you count early voting). Especially when down 7.6 points, and still has no Campaign infrastructure.
