The GOP is predicted to take over the Senate and gain control of the congress after elections in Sep
(CNN) -- The primaries are mostly over and the general election races are falling into place. All 435 seats in the House and a third of the Senate are up for election on November 4 in what's expected to be a difficult year for Democrats.
Here's what's on the line:
Control of the Senate: That's the big story of the year.
Republicans have their best chance of retaking the majority since they lost it in the 2006 midterms.
The GOP must realize a net gain of six seats to accomplish the turnaround with Democrats currently holding a 55-45 advantage (53 Democrats and two independents who caucus with them).
And for Democrats, it's not looking good.
Three seats total in South Dakota, West Virginia and Montana are almost certain to flip to Republicans. And another seven Democratic-held seats are at risk. In contrast, Republicans have a chance of losing only two seats.
"It's a healthier environment overall for Republicans," Jennifer Duffy, senior editor for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, said.
I'm not sure if I want that or not. On one hand it would finally get some shit done in the Government, and on the other it would be shit I don't like being done.
Why do people keep voting these idiots into power? They're responsible for most of the bad shit going on right now in the US
having democrats in power makes people forget how bad having republicans in power is, and vice versa
I guess Americans want to see our ecosystem destroyed, minimum wage abolished, etc etc etc.
Three words: Remember the Shutdown.
I really need to get the fuck outta here before my government kills me.
Well I guess I'm gonna have to find new health insurance
well i mean statistically you're probably more likely to be killed by the us government when you're out of the country
At the rate things are going in my house, I'm going to be dead by 30 if this shit keeps up. Wouldn't be surprised if it was less.
I'm fucking scared.

It's not a good sign when people are considering moving out of the US before they are even able to vote.
On the upside, I think 2016 is supposed to be a naturally advantageous year for Democrats. Especially after two full years of shitty Republican ideas going through Congress and being vetoed.
Seriously, though, I can't fucking believe my country still lets these people anywhere near a seat of power.

It's not as if people are powerless. Attend the primaries, and turn up to vote in the general election.
It doesn't matter who's at the helm of a sinking ship. So much has to be done to improve our situation and all they do is poop back and forth.

I think that's just kids overreacting to stuff they don't know anything about.

sweet fucking jesus what's going on that you fear you're life.?
I guess Americans want to see our ecosystem destroyed, minimum wage abolished, etc etc etc.
That's a silly way to think of it. I think of it like this.
I guess Americans want more stalemates and nothing happening at all.
sweet fucking jesus what's going on that you fear you're life.?
Maybe he has a preexisting medical condition and his insurance company will tell him "lol, we're not paying, go away and have fun dying" the second the ACA gets repealed.

No health insurance, we've got a land tax due that we have no idea how we're going pay off, neither of my parents can get a job because of the people that took our house will draw from their checks because of some debt that was already paid but they pretended like it was never paid, and I can't exactly find a kist job easily myself because I need to get my GED, which actually costs money to take.
Basically, I'm fucked if I don't become some kind of badass head honcho millionaire within the next 2 years.

The legacy of Nixon is that you can reliably marshal racist, sexist, homophobic, fuck-you-got-mine geriatrics into voting booths. Truthfully, Republicans wouldn't be so bad if they didn't encompass the bottom feeders of civilization as well as honest conservatives, but conflation of the two is what happens when you prefer easy voter turnout to having a functioning moral compass.

Half of your country can't be bothered to vote! The price we pay for being a society of apathetic little shits is rule by the incompetent and evil.

It's not as simple as that. Voting is extremely time consuming and takes a good amount of time out of your work day. When I went to vote in the 2012 election, I expected to be in and out in 15 minutes but instead it took me an hour and a half. So you have only two groups of people who vote: elderly people (who generally lean Republican) with too much free time, or people really invested in politics that they're willing to take the time out of their day to vote. And elderly people far outweigh the people who actually care enough about politics to vote so you get a generally higher Republican turnout. And it doesn't help that the voting window is very short, so if you can't get time off of work to vote, you're shit out of luck.

Most states allow early/postal voting now, doesn't yours?
Here's the thing, though...
Historically, one party having control of both houses has never made much of a difference in Congress' effectiveness at creating and passing legislation. Just because they're all on the red team doesn't mean they all like each other or have the same goals.
Most states allow early/postal voting now, doesn't yours?
Not sure. I'd have to look into it.
Most states allow early/postal voting now, doesn't yours?
That's been specifically under attack, primarily in red states, along with attempts at bringing in voter ID laws, to disenfranchise the low-income working (read: democratic) vote.
And the political war continues! :v:

If inconvenience accounted for the voter turnout problems, then early voting wouldn't have an anemic improvement on voter turnout, nor would voting by mail have a minimal impact on turnout.
You know what makes people vote? Telling people to fucking vote.

"Telling people to fucking vote" isn't very helpful or constructive. Informing them about early voting and voting by mail helps a lot more because those two are new to me and I'm sure many others don't know about it.
Three words: Remember the Shutdown.
Better fucking happen, I'm tired of these democrat tards.
"Telling people to fucking vote" isn't very helpful or constructive.
Empirically speaking, yeah, it is. What reliably works in research is establishing the act of voting as a norm, and then pressuring people into obeying it via positive pressure (what I already cited) or just shame.
While I appreciate that you are new at this and want to blame others for the misbehavior of your peers, at the end of the day, the majority of the fault is on people for simply not doing the deed.
