• Svavar Knútur - Awesome Icelandic folk

Svavar Knutur is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from Iceland. His music can best be described as acoustic folk, but he uses some weird instruments and stuff as well. His voice is beautiful, and the tone and lyrics of his songs have an amazing ability to evoke deep joy and sadness at the same time, with a healthy portion of melancholy. My brother had the pleasure of meeting him a while ago. My brother hosts a small radio show on a local radio station, and Svavar just walked in off the street with his ukulele, asked if they wanted an interview and performed his song "Clementine" after teaching the entire staff the backing vocal parts. He can best be described by this video I think. It's a song called Yfir Hóla og Yfir Hæðir Just him and some other people in an almost abandoned train station at 2 in the morning, making beautiful music. There's more music on his Myspace at www.myspace.com/mrknutur as well as bits and pieces on Youtube. He also has an album available called Kvöldvaka which can be bought digitally from Bandcamp here: http://svavarknutur.bandcamp.com/ It's only $8 and this guy most definitely deserves your support.
He's a pretty cool guy, met him a few times in the music shop called tónastöðin. Great with his instrument. Love his music.
