Hey guys, I just wanted to show you what I'm working on right now. It's basically Elevator:Source without elevator. You need to take stairs to get to your apartment and you can also check every apartment. Some are normal, but some contain a special secret. It's very WIP, it will be polished before released. I already posted in Gmod section, but I might get more feedback here. Just wanted to know if you guys like the idea. I'm still thinking between creating a Gmod map or an actual HL2 mod.
you have a lot of work to do
Hey, I like the concept. I think if you get some help from others, try to create a range of things to discover in each room, it'd make a pretty interesting exploration map.
I think you have an idea here. Its a novel concept, but it might be a bit much work and might be a bit too grand in scale. Your building doesn't really follow any architectural pleasing design- it is a big hole with doors and interior facing windows(?) all around the outside of the cavity. I would suggest pulling up some picture of interiors of apartments/hotels lobby areas and try to formulate a better layout. It would actually help you out in the long run changing the layout- optimization wise, you could use corners and architecture features to cull out areas better then using windowportals and areaportals for all +100 rooms. As well, a suggestion for lighting; use less- its more! If there is something Source can still do well its lighting. Space your lights and dim them, as well make them a skin colour (For incandescent) to give them a more natural glow. I would also suggest looking to getting or creating your own custom textures. Good luck, and don't be afraid about posting WIP or asking questions in the mapping section. There are a lot of nice (And not so nice) people there who can help a lot with just about everything.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely take time to make this and not rush through it. I was thinking of a possibility to collect different room keys so you can later unlock the doors or maybe the ones that were locked before. There are total of 225 rooms, so I need 225 unique ideas for each room, maybe you guys could help. I also have a friend that could help me with this.
