Hey man, we got a post rock thread already :( But you should head there. God is an Astronaut Explosions in the Sky This Will Destroy You These artists are great [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1030410-Post-rock, it's a couple threads below this one anyway
amazing. [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] Not quite postrock, but I feel it's worth a mention
I'm calling it. By the end of the year, all threads in the music section will be Post Rock-related. I'm quite a fan of Post Rock such as Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and ambience and sometimes noise. I often find myself listening to Merzbow casually. :v: But yeah, you should check out the other Post Rock thread we've got here, I'm sure you'd be welcome in the discussion. :buddy:
i dont really like post-rock, but fuck, i really love ambient and noise music
Thanks for the link to the other thread all. Heading their now. :P
This thread is too good to die [editline]12th June 2011[/editline] Oh fuck wait the other one has more pages. Forget this bump
There is a lack of GY!BE in this thread. And this has to be my personal favourite at the moment, it's the 'hidden' track on the CD version of Providence. Listen with headphones, those two drum kits... man. Another good post-rock band I heard of was Powder! Go Away. They're a Russian band, and this album's concept is about Laika the first animal to orbit the Earth, who sadly passed away. [editline]12th June 2011[/editline] I forgot Yndi Halda. Another amazing band, from the UK. They sound a lot like GY!BE.
I never really like GY!BE I never say all the hype associated with F#A# Infinity
Talk Talk are one of the forerunners of post-rock and you should check them out.
I never got the hype over Lift Your Skinny Fists. It's just too drawn out and minimalistic for my liking. F# A# ∞ is hugely superior in my opinion.
And this has to be my personal favourite at the moment, it's the 'hidden' track on the CD version of Providence. Listen with headphones, those two drum kits... man. This is: That's probably my favourite bit of music of all time. [editline]12th June 2011[/editline] Have some Bark Psychosis. Johnnytwentythree Johnnytwentythree Johnnytwentythree Johnnytwentythree >: Why so unknooown
I never cared for stuff like Explosions in the Sky, Mono, Mogwai, This Will Destroy You, etc. I kind of see bands like those as "generic" post rock. "Beedly Beedly Beedly Beedly" throughout the whole song is a massive turn off to me.
I don't even know where to begin after reading that post
I don't even know where to begin after reading that post
Mine?
I just don't see how there can be generic post rock
I just don't see how there can be generic post rock
It's becoming more and more popular, more and more people are picking up on post rock. It feels like post rock is becoming more and more "shallow" since it is easier to get record sales now. There's just not as much substance to more popular post rock artists as there once was due to the ease of selling records. I prefer heavier post rock or post metal, you gotta know what I mean by the "beedly beedly beedly" sound being overused in most post rock artists.
I have no idea about the "beedly beedly beedly" sound you're talking about, and personally I don't know anyone who knows about post rock in reality other than the people I've personally showed it too And the bands you quoted are all the ones I think are perfect representations of post rock.

There's alot more people listening to post rock than you think now though, just look at how many listens there are on Last.fm. Those are just the people that use Last.fm. I don't care about the popularity at all if it weren't affecting the quality of the music. It just seems that the value has gone down now that it is easier to sell an album.
I've only heard that in Russian Circles, out of all the post rock artists I have listened to [editline]13th June 2011[/editline] Well obviously you're doing it wrong by not listening to God Is An Astronaut
I've loved God is an Astronaut for 3 years :D The type of post(whatever you want to say; rock, metal, whatever you like) I enjoy is stuff like these: God is an Astronaut Grails The Evpatoria Report Russian Circles Red Sparowes Pelican Callisto Isis Caspian Vale Thayer Cabin Godspeed You! Black Emperor I'm just REALLY, REALLY picky when it comes to music. Those artists have sounds that I like, others don't.
God Is An Astronaut is pretty generic in that it mostly all sounds the same. They make the kind of music you could put on shuffle and you wouldn't be able to tell they were from different albums if you'd never heard it before. They are great though. And yeah I get the kind of post-rock you mean with EITS. But Mogwai doesn't fit it from what I've listened to lol [editline]13th June 2011[/editline] Also, you guys might like Jakob. They're pretty great post-rock, and I don't think I've actually seen them posted around here much (if at all?) It's long and drawn out kind of stuff too. This is Saint from the album Solace. Do any of you guys know Ender? It's an amazing post-rock band that sounds a bit droney too.
