I got a little inspiration one day to write this bit of an opening for a story... then I liked it so much I had to go on and write the ending, too. Well.. as it turns out I liked that part even more, so now I'm working on writing everything in the middle. Before anyone complains.. a few names are ripped from the anime Darker than Black.. but that's the extent of my Piracy.
It's gotten a bit lengthy, but I'm overall enjoying how it's turning out, and thought it might be worth posting up. Perhaps some of you are bored and would give it a read just for fun?
Here's a link to it in my tumblr. Ignore all the typos, so far I've just been pounding keys and haven't done a lick of proof-reading.

And the opening page or so.. for those of you who don't like the click-y.
"What happened to you?? I know it's been some time, but you're a complete wreck."
I suppose I was. My hair had gotten long and messy, underneath my eyes was dark and they themselves distantly looked out toward nothing. The scruff on my face completed the look. There was no reason to portray any other appearance. My only place in life had become to avoid whoever happened to be pursuing me that day. It's been 3 years since the incident, since me and Yin were the only ones left. Things had fallen apart during that job, for everyone in Tokyo really. That day everything had changed and we shouldered the weigh of it. But at first.. it was ok. We had each other. Yin was very quiet, and didn't speak her mind often, but you could tell what she was thinking. Her own distant look in her eyes changed when I grabbed her hand as we took off running. Even during the rare times we weren't running, the good days, while we walked she would hold my hand gently. She said.. I want to stay like this forever.
That's the last day we saw each other.
We were working for a small client to do a job, but got ambushed in the middle by some other syndicate's men. We got split up, it didn't feel right. I engaged the guys on me.. there was one who was good, really good. After the other two were down his knife found it's target and I buckled. As I struggled to do anything, even to keep awake, she showed up. He didn't stand a chance and she ended his life without him even knowing. I dropped to my knees, then to the ground, vision getting blurry and dark. I felt her embrace me and take my hand, and that was it.
I don't know what happened next. I awoke later and she was gone. My wound had stopped bleeding... but I was still in a back alley. No sign of Yin. For a while I kept hope. I recuperated and continued what I did with naieve optimism we would find each other. Weeks turned into months and it wained.. I knew that was the end of it. I would walk down the streets at night with a cigarette trailing behind me, out in the open, exposed. I didn't care. What did it matter? Now, now I was truly alone in the world. Eventually the jobs stopped coming, something went wrong, someone got tipped off.. I don't know. The last job felt like a set up. I went anyway. The last job was a set up. After narrowly escaping I found myself being followed ever since. It's been over a year now.
I took a final drag on my cigarette and put it out on the bench I was sitting on. Mao looked at me. It's been 3 years since I saw him. He was with us when it happened and I'd seen him die right in front of my eyes. I guess you can't believe what your eyes see.
"That's quite the tale. What would you think if it was just the beginning?"
"What?"
"There's been a lot of time to gather up information.. on you, on Yin."
"Me?"
"You said people had been following you.. so are you surprised?"
"I suppose not. But Yin too?"
"That's right. Her reputation travels far. There's bits and pieces of reports that sound like they have to do with her, and where she is."
"So, where is she??"
"It's not quite that simple."
"But she's alive?"
"That's the accepted truth."
I let out a sigh. A small point of hope hangs in the sky among the stars.
