Yes they are and we have come to terms with it years ago. A fantacy world where guys are buff and full of testo and beautiful girls with little to no actual useful armor is something we as a culture have created ourselves. Sex sells, just look at all the other forms of media around you.

Did you watch the video?? She brings that up.
tl;dr of the video: core gamers are still mostly male. Male protagonists, violence, and sexy women sell to this audience. Why are people surprised that that is what males are interested in buying?

No i didn't watch it. I just entered the thread to give my 2 cents on the title. Sorry. But i guess i was pretty on point either way.
(User was banned for this post ("Trolling/Shitposting" - Swebonny))
I don't know how you can say the industry caters to either gender.
Of course there are targeted demographic games, but you're going to ignore the games that are purely artistic vision?
Metro series, Portal series, HL series? They're story driven artistic narratives and don't have a target demographic.
Can we stop posting controversial feminism in the videogames industry threads for guarunteed replies? There's nothing that can be said about this topic that hasn't been said to death already.
No i didn't watch it. I just entered the thread to give my 2 cents on the title. Sorry. But i guess i was pretty on point either way.
then your opinion doesnt matter. The thread is about the video, not the title
Also this is an actual good video. If you don't watch it, you're a bandwagon retard who has the attention span of a hamster.

that's the problem with this forum
nobody ever watches the videos in a video forum they just read the title and go "welp better post i'm sure it'll be right lol"
pretty stupid

it is so much worse in sensationalist headlines

Wasn't there a video posted not too long ago from the same author and it had some misinformation?
Just found a fairly through deconstruction of this video: https://medium.com/@cainejw/the-factual-feminist-a-factcheck-f5ae584f56da

she's really boring to listen to though
incredibly boring
like those infomercials that come on late at night on some channels
for fucks sake, there are millions of women who play video games and do not give an absolute flying fuck about 'sexism' in video games. Every girl I've known, they do not care. Every dude I've known, they don't care. The major demographic of people who play games don't care because GAMES ARE GAMES.

they're "just" games, right? then i guess we really shouldn't be able to talk about whether they're art, beneficial to development, a good coping tool, etc...
the "who cares it's just X!" "argument" is the worst kind of mindset to have, because if people don't give a shit about issues that games have, they'll stagnate. talking about sexism is JUST as important as talking about them having more realistic characters, stories, and and worlds.
now that i think about it, the "who cares!!!" mindset is especially bad in the videogame industry because you can easily avoid discussions you don't care about. there, you can keep playing your just games games and i can do that and talk about them.
[editline]20th September 2014[/editline]
like, i don't get this.
if some of you guys legitimately thought that games were just for playing and nothing else, why even bother entering these threads, or watching hilarious /v/ videos about game sexism?
i talk about these issues on forums and twitter and shit not because i like arguing (believe it or not), i do it because in addition to playing games, i like talking about how they as a whole can improve, how they can become more technologically advanced, how the games market can improve, or how the stories can get bigger and better. all of this shit's equally important imo. dumb as heck to not talk about sexism in games because of kickstarter lady's videos or some tumblr users you saw screencapped on reddit or something.

who cares?
video games are supposed to be for fun, our entertainment and searching for things to complain about in a fantasy world instead fixing REAL WORLD problems is dumb. For how many years have certain people complained about these things? The end result is that it hasn't changed anything at all.
-"this game portraits a negative stereotype and we will not stand for that!"
-"Ok, sorry."
-repeat
Edit: Arguing in a forum about sexism in games isn't going to make them better at all.

you know its possible for me to donate to charity and disaster relief care, talk about shit in ferguson, israel, somalia, whatever, go to work, go to school, eat butter raw, AND spend half an hour a week talking about videogames, right?
the "what about REAL issues" is dumb as hell because... what? out of all of the things i do in my life that you could potentially call useless, dumb, or better spent doing something else, why pick the couple few hundred posts i've made about game sexism opposed to the 20,000 i have in other threads, or on other forums, or in games?
or are games not allowed to be a discussion topic because they're not as important as something else or what. i'm starting to sound like a broken record because i'm guessing this retort has been made hundreds of thousands of times on the internet, but why don't i just sell my stupid computer and go teach the poor to read in a 3rd world country if my actions in life are so meaningless
Here we go again

maybe it's not that gamers don't want to talk about games(because they totally never do that, right)
maybe they just don't want to talk about games with self righteous morons who don't actually know anything about the subject
Why does everyone have to be a pussy and be offended by everything
Why can't people create games without other people flipping their shit and wanting them to restrict creativity.
Just, why
Here we go again
Nope, I have no idea what direction he took in that last post but it sure didn't have anything to do with what I said.
Games are fun and stuff, enjoy them.
This video is like super blatant pandering, especially given the organization that is backing the message is the American Enterprise Institute.

i don't see why my post has nothing to do with what you said when your entire argument was basically "who cares!" in response to my post about why that mindset isn't cool.

as much as I hate the AEI, and as much bullshit as "Prager "University"" has put out, that doesn't automatically invalidate everything they say.
What I'm saying is, if Hitler said the sky was blue it wouldn't turn green just because he's an asshole.

Parents didn't teach them on how to handle things like a man
Like seriously here in my country nobody gives a fuck about "sexist video games", and don't say "It doesn't matter if your country thinks about something", my country has a huge opportunity for profit in the video game industry.

but, literally who cares
play games, shut up.
there's no problem in video games, there's no sexism, there's only people trying to find things to complain about
fucking hell

okay the severity of sexism in games themselves is debatable, but are you for real? can you honestly say that the videogame industry has no sexism? at all?
like, even if you ignore every single bit of writing ever made in videogames, as a section of the tech industry it's pretty biased in gender disparity, as well as how women are treated in marketing, and a bunch of other wacky bullshit
i don't see why my post has nothing to do with what you said when your entire argument was basically "who cares!" in response to my post about why that mindset isn't cool.
uh you wrote about doing normal activities and something about your post count, I guess I'll just say this to this:
or are games not allowed to be a discussion topic because they're not as important as something else or what.
They're fake worlds created for our enjoyment, it doesn't matter if a man is unrealistically smooth with women, buff and handsome, it doesn't matter if a woman is unrealistically beautiful and curvy because it's NOT REAL.
Instead of searching for gender issues to complain about, either play the game if you like it or uninstall it and move on with your life, jeez.
[editline]21st September 2014[/editline]
Sure there's sexism, but there's a lot of other stuff too, because it's made for exaggerated and humanly impossible things to do because if it was so fucking realistically and equality made, it would just not provide the fun that most games out there give.
Can we stop this please, neither side is going to budge on this, so it's going to continue in a militaristic style until someone gets banned or the thread gets locked.
This video is like super blatant pandering, especially given the organization that is backing the message is the American Enterprise Institute.
This. The video is literally a restatement of the most repeated things we've heard about this argument.
When was the last time new and profound discussion has been provided for this subject? It's just been the two sides brutally lashing out in hatred against each other, futility trying to beat their ideals into the others head and it hasn't and will never amount to anything.
I am totally on the side of Milk and others promoting equal representation because video games aren't just some niche medium anymore- they're a multibillion dollar industry that deserves better than what it has now, in all aspects. Name me one other medium on the scale of Videogames with the level of shitty writing, shallow and boring characters, and a blatant emphasis on pandering to the overwhelmingly male demographic of hardcore enthusiasts that people refuse to take a look at because it doesn't affect them.
People will so vehemently defend the status quo of their beloved hobby that it turns into a heavily toxic environment of shit flinging and I'm quite frankly sick of the whole ordeal. As I said previously, it's all been said to death and both sides have become parodies of themselves in their arguments and blatant pandering and It really makes the industry and it's audience look childish and pathetic.

those not-real characters were made by actually-real people, you know. they won't become better characters of their own volition, the real actual for real people making them have to make a change.
and back to my first post, i was calling you out on the "what about the real world" BS, because i'm not in any way having my beef with videogames supercede the beef i have with the real world. both of those viewpoints, as well as normal shit i do every day, can all coexist.
