First i kept wondering what was so special about the Yakuza series.
Dunkey has shown me the light, time to dust off my PS3.
Yakuza 3 was the one reason I didn't want to sell my PS3 a couple of years ago. And when I finally decided to, I kept the game and made sure I backed up the save file just in case I got another one sometime down the line.

3, 4, and 5 are all available on your PS3, and they are all just as special as Dunkey portrays. Keep in mind, 3 is the weirdest/nonsequitirish in terms of plot, so moving onto 4 might be a little weird. Still fun though!
4 has a recap mode where you can get a specially made recap of the story for 1-3. It might be best to just buy 4 then 5 and then wait for 0 which is confirmed for localization and then the remake of 1 and then 6 if they get localized.
Yakuza 4 was both my first PS3 game and my first Yakuza game. These are some of the best games on the system IMO.

I will tell you, it is -everything- from 1-3 story wise.

Yeah, to be more specific it's three short 'movies' or what have you of the main character narrating what happened over the course of that game over cutscenes from the game, not a big block of text or anything.
It's about an hour long in total. Here's a video of TBF going over it.
3 is also probably the worst of 3/4/5, it's still good but not nearly as long or as eventful as the others
and 3 doesn't have akiyama so there's that
I haven't played 5 yet, but 3 definitely outdid 4 in the bosses if nothing else.
There was only a couple really good bosses, most of them were just dudes who suddenly show up and don't really matter, or the other protagonists.

But 4 has a leg up on 3 in terms of gameplay overall. Having 4 characters with different moves was fucking awesome.
