Let's get this out of the way with, we all know Vitor is going to lose, there is no secret in this. Vitor knows Vitor is going to lose. Does this mean it won't be a fun match to watch? No. This match has potential of being a fun fight in the same way that Silva vs Griffin or Penn vs Sanchez. But don't let the predictable main event throw you off because this card is STACKED. Let's take a look.
Main Card
Middleweight Championship: Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort
Light Heavyweight: Forrest Griffin vs Rich "Ace" Franklin
Welterweight: Jake Ellenberger vs Carlos Eduardo Rocha
Light Heavyweight: Jon Jones vs Ryan Bader
Bantamweight: Miguel Torres vs Antonio Banuelos
Free Prelims on SPIKE
Lightweight: Donald Cerrone vs Paul Kelly
Featherweight: Chad Mendes vs Michihiro Omigawa
Free Prelim on FACEBOOK
Bantamweight: Norifumi Yamamoto vs Demetrious Johnson
okay hold on, take a deep breath. Your mind if probably blown at this point, but let's have a quick rundown here. Yamamoto makes his UFC debut for free! Awesome. But Johnson is one slick bamf, this will not be an easy fight for either man. Donald Cerrone vs Paul Kelly and Chad Mendes vs Michichcihcihcihiro for free as well?! How sick is that. Jones vs Bader will be interesting, if Jones wins I could easily see Jones vs Rampage and if Bader wins I think he will go against the winner of Griffin vs Franklin. The loser of Griffin vs Franklin will probably fight James Tony or something, I don't know.
As with every UFC event, I will give my completely wrong and misguided picks and request your picks too
Silva
Griffin
Jones
Rocha
Torres
Cerrone
Omigawa
Johnson
Yeah, Jon Jones! Haven't seen him in a while. Despite what you said, I'm going for Vitor. I like it whenever a dethroning happens.
Vitor
Griffin
Jones
Rocha
Torres
Cerrone maybe, it will be close
Haven't seen omigawa yet
Yamamoto
Also, will the bantamweight fight prelim be on spike also?
Silva no doubt, that guy is fucking incredible
Excited for Silva. Griffin and Franklin will probably put on an awesome show though. It's gonna be sooo fun!
FUCK Jon Jones. I really can't root for him or anything. Bader isn't leaps better though. If nothing good happens in the first round, I'm not gonna watch the rest of the bout.
Nice to see the UFC really picking up on the additional divisions. I think they have had a fight in them for like the past 5 events or something. I think in general, though, more people should be excited for them. Those small guys almost always have INSANE stamina and speed, so there is always a huge fucking potential for a blast of a fight. I mean even when they go to decision, you still feel so much more satisdied because shit happened during all the rounds.
I don't know how anyone can not like Jon Jones
if Forrest/Rich is a great fight
+
Bader wins
+
Silva wins
+
Packers win
= badass weekend
im not a Jon Jones fan. no doubt he's a good fighter but he has a dick personality and i'd like to see him get knocked out. i think Belfort has a chance to win early in the fight but don't think he will.
Belfort doesn't have anything to lose, so I expect to see him come out like a goddamn pitbull. Not sure if Silva is going to be able to handle a striker like Belfort putting such insane pressure on him. However, Silva is an amazing counter striker, so the odds are definitely in his favor.
Looking forward to this.
Not putting down any predictions this time.
But fucking hyped for this.
Such a good card cannot wait for this. All three main fights are great match-ups i reckon and will lead to some interesting fights. Most looking forward to Griffin vs Franklin, mirror images fighting each other.
Vitor isnt guaranteed to lose, if he hits Silva with anything Silva is going to be hurt. That being said I do think Anderson will win.
Silva
Franklin
Jones
Ellenberger
Torres

I mean there is always a punchers chance, but Silva's counter-punching is far too good for someone like Vitor. Especially since he has been telegraphing his punches in his later fights. Plus Silva has a pretty wicked chin when he does get hit.

He still has the hand speed and power to hurt anyone though. Silva does have a good chin, but it's not invincible, and a fast combo is all it could take for him to TKO Silva.
I do think Silva is at a massive advantage, but Vitor is also a counter puncher and that's why this fight is amazing.
Silva vs. Belfort :allears:

I think Dana said it best
"It's either going to be an amazing fight or it will be one of the worst fights ever"
Knowing Silva's track record with waiting to counter-punch and Vitor's slightly more aggressive counter-punching style, it has potential to be a technically awesome and exciting fight. However, it could be a very boring one.
I'm willing to bet it'll be a good fight though, Vitor really has nothing left to lose and I think he will lay it all on the line on Saturday
Silva and Bader. That's all I'm predicting.
The main event will be insane. I think it'll be close but I can see Anderson emerging victorious. If Vitor gets him on the ground however he'll be in trouble.
Holy shit

Now if only this was free, I hope some streams (not on UFC.tv and free) will have the option of changing camera angles like that :sigh:
I would buy almost every ppv at $30.
[editline]5th February 2011[/editline]
Made some bets
Parlay on Silva and Jones $35 to win $30
$5 on Silva finishing the fight (not decision)
Omigawa $10 to win $25
then I had some money left over so I put $4 on BJ Penn to beat Fitch although I may change that. BJ is almost a 2 to 1 underdog for that fight though.
A video I saw of Vitor getting manhandled by Ray Sefo in sparring doesn't leave me with much optimism.
I hope silva gets his ass handed to him, unlikely as it seems
guys a prick

But also for some insane reason, people don't seem to realize, or don't want to, just how good Silva is.
Sonnen was the closest anyone has come to cutting Silva down, and he still got beaten by Silva, who had a fucking broken rib.
Sonnen is mah boi
He's from Oregon, so am I. He was a fool to use steroids though

ugh
he didn't use steroids
It was a mis-communication issue at most between him and the athletic commission

Even if he did use AAS, I wouldn't care to be honest. People are naive if they think a large number of Athletes in the UFC alone aren't using AAS and/or other performance enhancers.
Overeem gets accusations chucked at him left right and center, yet no one bats an eye when Todd Duffee smiles his HGH enhanced smile.
[editline]5th February 2011[/editline]
A large amount of it comes from people having no clue what most forms of AAS actually do.
I remember looking at the youtube page from when Royce Gracie was caught using. The most prevalent comment? "Wtf he doesn't even look big". People's complete lack of understanding of something they continue to have such a stigma against is so retarded.
The steroids the fighters test positive for generally improve recovery speed.
It's not really for building muscle mass.
The steroids the fighters test positive for generally improve recovery speed.

One in the same. Recovery is the key function that makes most forms of AAS ideal for building muscle mass, other than the better hormonal profiles.
Regardless, the point I'm trying to make is at elite levels in every kind of sport, there is performance enhancing and doping in an attempt to achieve an edge. Most of the time it's not even AAS, it's also pain killers, narcotics, etc etc.
It gets to a point where if an Athlete isn't cheating to get an advantage, it's more fool him.
The testing protocols are either ridiculously vague (and therefore fighters get picked up for the wrong stuff - I remember when a fighter got picked up for "abnormal levels of testosterone" and was later cleared) or ridiculously easy to bypass with the right know how and preparation.
Some of the more scary compounds are like IGF-1, not only does it present a huge increase in recovery rate, but it also protects and increases the growth rate of neural pathways, theoretically allowing for the quicker acquisition of new skills. And to top it off, they still haven't got a reliable method of testing for IGF-1.
Bah, I've derailed this thread. Anyway back on topic.
war forrest
I see.
Most people who have huge, body builder, muscles in MMA gas out like fuck in no time anyway.
Overeem may be an exception, but Ryan Bader is known for it, and Shane Carwin obviously did. Todd Duffee did. (Against Russow).

You have the source for that? I want to show my wrestling coach so he doesn't lose all faith in him.

http://www.cagepotato.com/chael-sonnen-talks-csac-hearing-and-sort-admits-he-should-have-disclosed-his-hrt-commission-doctor
Basically he has had low testosterone levels his whole life. He didn't hit puberty until he was like 18 or something like that. He had been using stuff to increase his testosterone levels and he documented that to the athletic commission but that still wasn't enough for them (even though they directly approved it earlier in the year).
I went to them in 2009 and received approval. It wasn't simple. It wasn't just a matter of telling them and they said 'OK.' I had to do some work. I had to get him paperwork, we had to fax them stuff and the doctor had to look after that and we were given approval. That approval is a lifetime approval. You don't have to go back and redo it. I work with the Oregon State Commission and I know we are undermanned and overworked, so with that in mind I did go back to them in 2010 and that time I did it by email. I have an email response where they tell me, 'OK.' This was after the request of the results of five different blood tests, all of which I submitted. It was very sophisticated to get approval this time...I disclosed this to them in writing over a year ago. I disclosed this to their previous commissioner who was actually the interim commissioner between Armando Garcia and the sitting director, this medicine and received approval," Sonnen explains. "I then went up to the executive director and told him face-to-face, 'This is in my system, and this is what will show up.' We then grabbed a form and wrote it down with USADA, the testing agency. Then they pulled the carpet out from under me and said, 'Geez, we didn't know anything about it. Ultimately, today I was found guilty of not disclosing.
So as not to be embarrassed by their mistake, they still punished Sonnen, but they halved his original punishment.
[editline]5th February 2011[/editline]
he still is possibly guilty of money laundering though, which is much more serious than this
He is guilty of that.
He pleaded Guilty.
Largely because if he says innocent and they make him guilty. 20 years in the slammer.
