I thought European education was better than most places. What's going on?
I thought European education was better than most places. What's going on?
They are fighting against the price of education, not the education itself.
I thought European education was better than most places. What's going on?
Cost of it. Uni fees tripled like 2 years ago.
I thought European education was better than most places. What's going on?
You have to fork out £9K a year for your university course now instead of how it used to be where I think it was around £3K Plus courses are sometimes quite long depending on what you want to do, so you can often end up £30K or more in debt. College is free unless you are over a certain age but it's always been the case you'll have to pay for University unless you get a Scholarship or something.

How much does your average college cost in the UK per year? Mine's only €1200 per year in the Netherlands.
I was going to joke that they should come here and see how much we pay, but I looked it up and the average tuition for a public college was just under $9000.
How much does your average college cost in the UK per year? Mine's only €1200 per year in the Netherlands.
Depends what you mean by college, college here is age 16-18 and it's free
£9k for UK students, for foreign students it's around £30k (last time I checked)
It's only 9K for English+Welsh I think. I know NI still gets it for 3K (I'm at uni there) and I think Scotish people get it either for free or for 3K aswell. English/Welsh that go to uni in either NI or Scotland still need to pay 9K though.
Compared to the rest of the world £9k isn't bad, and that's only the top unis who charge that much, so you're getting your £9k moneys worth. Sounds like a bunch of international teenagers angry they can't come to Britain to make use of cheap education, and will have to stay in their own country to afford education.
How much does your average college cost in the UK per year? My design course was about £1500 in total though, but because I was under the age it cost nothing.
I like how the DM puts the violent protesters first and then WAY DOWN 'Oh yeah there were a lot more peaceful people but whatev'
Honestly we don't have an absolutely terrible deal apart from the fact that they can always change the terms of repayment. I doubt many will even be paying the full amount back.
Good on them. I am all for free education - any education ( as long as it's legal )
At least they are fighting for something meaningful
Honestly we don't have an absolutely terrible deal apart from the fact that they can always change the terms of repayment. I doubt many will even be paying the full amount back.
It's quite a lot of money like. English students need to pay like £27,000 just for a single Honours degree, and then when you add on 3 years of maintenance loans it adds up to about £36,000. That doesn't even factor in all their expenses too, so add a few more thousand ontop of that depending on how you live and if you're living at home etc.
The police look legitimately fearful in some of those photos. Poor guys just trying to keep order and peace.
oh how I love not having to pay tuition fees [img]http://www.monologuedb.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/braveheart.jpg[/img]

I started my first year of college at age 18 and I turned 19 a month after the course started. At the end of the year I wanted to stay for a second course to do the next level that is 2 years and was worried about the cost as it said it would cost £1080 each year + £50 trip frees. After talking with the colleges finance department I was told it is currently free if you are doing your first full level 3 course. So I am now 20 and doing the first year of the course and am rather happy not having to spend all that cash.

No other debt will be as forgiving and lenient.
Members of the hard-line anarchist Black Bloc organisation infiltrated the student demonstration wearing balaclavas and waving flags.
So they pin this on students when it was instigated by anarchists?
