Despite getting to the airport early, long lines were going to make him late for the plane and all the TSA drones couldn't give a damn. Finally through security, he ran through the airport in his socks, clutching his shoes, before arriving, gasping at the Southwest gate—12 minutes late. Would he lose the seats his wife had arranged for him over the phone with the ticketing agent, whom she had told about the tragic reason for his trip? According to the letter written to Elliott by the man's wife, the gate agent told the grandfather, [release]"Are you Mark? We held the plane for you and we're so sorry about the loss of your grandson." The pilot held the plane that was supposed to take off at 11:50 until 12:02 when my husband got there. As my husband walked down the Jetway with the pilot, he said, "I can't thank you enough for this." The pilot responded with, "They can't go anywhere without me and I wasn't going anywhere without you. Now relax. We'll get you there. And again, I'm so sorry." [/release] Reached for comment, a Southwest airlines rep told Elliot that they were "proud" of what the pilot had done. Nice to see that in this age of razor thin margins and pretzel bag fees there's still some human decency left.[/release] Source: http://consumerist.com/2011/01/southwest-pilot-holds-plane-for-murder-victims-family.html
And yet, good things can still happen in this world.
nice to know there are nice pilots :buddy:
Aww. That was nice of the pilot.
Damn, some pilots are awesome.
If you want a bit of a laugh, read moderndemagogue's comments from the source. Be prepared to rage though.

On a practical level, its bullshit for them to waste everyone else's time. It's making one customer more important than all the others, and I'm never for that.
That is kind of a dick thing to say.
I dunno, I found it funny because of how heartless the comments were.
:patriot:
aww that's so nice.
Things like this restore a bit of my faith in humanity.
Talk about a feel good story, and I find it interesting that a pilot will stop a plane dead to wait for a man, where the TSA will make him rip his shoes and belt and watch off and sprint barefoot through an airport.
Hopefully if I manage to get through school and become a pilot, I would do the same. An airplane can always fly a bit faster and this man's trip is far more important than any buisnessman's meeting with some CEO or any profit margin ever. Good job holding that plane!
That pilot is awesome.
When it comes down to it, Airline pilots and Air Traffic controllers have some of the most stressful jobs in the world, where one wrong move could spell death for you and countless others. It'll either turn you in to the nicest person alive or the biggest asshole ever.
Southwest of what?

I'd be thinking otherwise if he had waited for an hour though.
They can't go anywhere without me and I wasn't going anywhere without you. Now relax.
Looks like a quote from a movie.
God dammit. Nobody holds a plane for me, and I almost got stuck in god damn Chicago because of it. Fuck those pricks.

This reminds me of Louis C.K.'s Hilarious. If you've seen it you know what I'm talking about. 6:20
