This is pretty heartbreaking. I feel bad for literally everyone in this video.

That's fucked up.
while ows idiots whine about the US and evil big business, free health care, $18.00/hr minimum wages and a plethora of other spoiled rotten demands. Pointed out recently by Dad61, there's always someone worse off. appreciate what you DO have.
The video may be fucked up but just because people aren't living in cages doesn't mean that they should be happy with what they have if they are thousands in debt, and stop fighting for a better life.

Fuck, I want to know where I can work for $18.00 an hour minimum wage.
EDIT: Because $7.40 an hour just doesn't cut it, if I was making $18 an hour I'd be more than glad to work every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3PM until 11PM no questions asked.
no you should feel glad that other people are suffering every day.
That little Chinese girl who lives in a room smaller than a king sized bed is happier than most most people who live in 4 room houses in the United States. Very interesting.

Because that's all she knows.

I see and agree, but why are the people who live in 100,000$ homes not content? My best guess is our comercial consuming life style.
I will be pondering about this for a while.

Probably because having a $100,000 home around where I live is considered to be lower middle class. Everyone wants something bigger and better, and people won't be happy until they have it all. (even then some people aren't happy.)
So they are practically homeless you could say, but still got enough money to have a tiny bit of "private" space?
Quite a horrible video, but I hope they are good buddies those who live together.

I think it's because a material based lifestyle leaves so much more to be demanded and allows for so much more to go wrong. Most people aren't happy when the convenient things you have aren't working; for example: Power goes out during a storm, Internet speeds get excruciatingly slow, or your mum isn't allowing you to have a cookie before dinner. If you don't have those things there's less to really focus on and you are forced to appreciate the little things. They don't know a better lifestyle, so they have no reason to gripe or complain. I don't necessarily think people in the United States/Developed Nations are unhappier, it's just we have more things that can "go wrong" in our daily lives that we find ourselves constantly complaining.

What?
Honestly the fact that they're sleeping in cages isn't that bad, it's the other things that tend to accompany them that are bad. The cages are 2 1/2 feet by 6 feet; half a foot shorter than single beds are wide, plus you don't have to worry about falling off the bed so the half foot doesn't matter that much.
Don't get me wrong, it is degrading, but the worst fact is they have so little to pay for everything else. As far as the video says, they're doing fine on sanitation, food and water with the little money they have past rent; The little girl and the single mother have it much worse off, IMHO.
And before someone says, no I would not like to sleep in a cage instead of my bed, but I would if I had nothing else.

Because pain, suffering and 'contentness' are all subjective
Because pain, suffering and 'contentness' are all subjective
Indeed, especially considering that from the perspective of Buddhism, those people are more free from suffering then most.
The little girl is adorable... She's smiling the whole time.

I make $6.50/hr and work most weekdays and every single weekend. I'm on your boat right now, where do we go for more monies?

I know! We should start offering various rich people services that are interested in feeling like evil villains by chasing them with torches and pitchforks in groups.
I wonder why they need to live in the middle of Hong Kong in the first place.
FUCKING SERIOUSLY?
Surprised people earn so little per hour over in the US. Here it's normal with 130NOK/$22,69/h if you work in a grocery store.

Yeah, working at Kroger (US Grocery Store Chain) I made $7.35 per hour starting out. When I became a cashier it went to $7.45 woo for a whole ten cent raise with more responsibilities, more that can go wrong, and you get to stand in one place for 6-8 hours. As a courtesy clerk sure I did a lot of manual labor, but at least I got to move around and escape for a few minutes every couple of hours to take a short break to slow down. As a cashier your work doesn't end until your shift is over; funnily enough the only day that was ever slow for me as a cashier was Black Friday last year since people were elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, I loved being a cashier though, it was a lot of fun; but with how hard I had to work and the inconvenient hours I had I could've used a little more pay, especially with trying to get through school and pay for other necessities.
How old is this video.

Yes, but shit also costs 4 times more in Norway than it does in the US(and then taxes ontop of that.) It balances out, and honestly I prefer the US method more. I earn 125NOK(21.65$), and that's barely enough for each month. Never got any support for school, or otherwise that this government is apparently so applauded for.
Makes me feel bad to live in a home bigger then theirs..

My parent's closet has more space then their home.
