Hello everyone, I have come to you with a question. This section of the forum was the best one in my eyes. Since Last Summer vacation (1 year ago) I became more and more interested in photography. Now I could ask my dad for advice, he knows what to keep in mind since he used to have photography as a hobby too, but that was somewhat 30 years ago, when there were no Digital Camera's yet. After experimenting with my mothers camera (Canon PowerShot A70) that has a lot of adjustable settings I have decided to purchase a Digital Single Lens Reflex camera because of I not only like the way the camera's feel (I took a lot of photo's with my aunts DSLR Camera yesterday) but also the way they handle. Now I am new to these kinds of camera's but I have gotten to like Photography so much that I think it is worth investing in a new hobby. The camera that is well within my budget and does well in Dutch Tests is the Canon EOS 1000D (with 18-55mm lens). The problem is, as I have said: I am unkown to the world of DSLR camera's so I dont really know what to look at. This might sound goofy, but i'd like a camera with a lens that I can adjust (Rotate the lens itself) rather than Optical and Digital zoom. I would like to know what you photographers think of the above mentioned camera, and if you totally disagree with me, what I should buy instead. (Maximum money I want to spend: €400/558USD/343GBP) Thanks for reading this, and in advance for giving your opinion.
Get a Canon XSI, which is way better than the 1000d.
DSLR budgets limit you to 2 or 3 camera tops as each brand has a camera for each set range. so pick a price range and look through each brands products for that price IIRC entry level is around £200 - £300 so i believe the canon EOS 1000d (as you said) the nikon D40 (or D60 i cant remember) and the sony A200k (alpha 200k) are the main ones to look for. i doubt this will be much help but its as good as i can offer, i myself own a Canon EOS 450D hasn't let me down so far.
the Canon XSI, That is equivalent to the Canon EOS 450D? Could you elaborate on that please?
yes i believe the 450D is the EU/UK version of the XSI
I hope to be able to see them in the store tommorow and to check out the price aswell. If anyone wants to share their opinion about mentioned camera's or wants to bring in a different model within my price range, please do so.

I would say save and get the 450D, and then buy more glass as you go.
okay, thanks for the advice. I am still going to look what the 1000D has to offer since the 450D is more expensive. but yeah I'd like to be able to buy more lenses later on.
