Yes, the rest of the world is watching this embarrassing debt ceiling nonsense, and it is growing dismayed. Der Spiegel has a roundup of commentary in German newspapers about the fight, and the universal message is this:
The US is holding the entire world hostage, and it's the Republicans that are playing with fire.
Hard to accuse the Germans (who are no fans of fiscal profligacy) of being motivated by politics, or of having some inherent reason to attack Republicans. This is just the reality of what they're doing.
Here's the passage from Bild, the newspaper of the masses:
"Playing poker is part of politics, as is theatrical posturing. That's fair enough. But what America is currently exhibiting is the worst kind of absurd theatrics. And the whole world is being held hostage.
"Irrespective of what the correct fiscal and economic policy should be for the most powerful country on earth, it's simply not possible to stop taking on new debt overnight. Most importantly, the Republicans have turned a dispute over a technicality into a religious war, which no longer has any relation to a reasonable dispute between the elected government and the opposition."
"If it continues like this, the US will be bankrupt within a few days. It would cause a global shockwave like the one which followed the Lehman bankruptcy in 2008, which triggered the worst economic crisis since the war. Except it would be much worse than the Lehman bankruptcy. The political climate in the US has been poisoned to a degree that is hard for us (Germans) to imagine. But we should all fear the consequences."
[/release]

Wow, it's sad that even a foreign country can safely say that the republicans are crazy.

Haven't they kinda been saying that already?
Haven't they kinda been saying that already?
Yeah, this has been known I think.
Remember this?

Haha. What do they think of Murdoch?
Not a single person I know here thinks that the republicans are in any way sane.
I don't feel crazy.....
Yeah, this has been known I think.

what is this showing?
Not all republicans are crazy.
Not all republicans are crazy.
You're right. But the republicans that are doing things that are the crazy ones, though.
Edit
what is this showing?
It was a world poll on the 2008 Presidential election.
Not all republicans are crazy.
Those who are in power are.
I read an article on the economist that said despite the magazine's usual opposition to larger government and higher taxes, the republicans are taking it way too far.
I think we can all agree though that the US most definitely will reach an agreement.
It's just a game of chicken.
Nobody here knows ANY republicans beside President Bush and Senator John McCain & Palin. And I doubt our neighbor countries do.
We know only a few things about republicans:
They faked 9/11.
They want only oil.
They are racists.
They are christians.
And they love war.
Most people hate the US as a whole (at least where I live). Because of Iraq and McDonalds and houses made of wood. Really.
Talk about bias.

But there's no rain.

Well the pressure in the barometre is changing, I would say that it will be here soon.
I hear thunder.
My teacher told me to watch loose change because I don't belive it.

You're joking..
Right?
HNNNNNNNNNNNG...
Both the left wing AND the right wing parties in Sweden supported Obama during the 2008 presidential elections. Virtually everyone here hated Bush while he still was in office. His visit to Gothenburg in 2001 amassed around 50,000 protestors and led to a full scale riot. Yes, people here do think that the republicans are insane.

I must go now to talk to Garry. And then probably get banned for talking to Garry.
Everyone in my area agrees with OP

Is there an article accompanying that? Mostly cause if I were to paste that somewhere else people would say I just made it.
[editline]15th July 2011[/editline]
In addition it conflicts with this article:

How do the two articles conflict? If you spread that article to the 192.. shit, 193 countries. it'd show Obama would have had at least 40% support worldwide. Much better than McCain. Bit yes, a source would be nice.
Holy fuck Obama save us.
[editline]15th July 2011[/editline]
no fuck that, SAVE THE WORLD.
Holy fuck Obama save us.
There's too much against him and the Democrats in congress.
