My god its sexy
Lmao that pilot talking shit about the speeds.
Yes a Spitfire reached Mach .92 and allegedly Mach .96
but in both cases it happened in pretty much an idle dive straight for the ground and for the first case the wing got bent backwards due to the stress. A spitfire cruises at mach .5-.6 at best while your average airlines go at .8.
that's crazy impressive. but if I had built a spitfire from the ground up, I dunno how much I'd trust myself to let me or other people fly it. it's got so many moving parts, what if he'd cocked up the wiring or left something loose.
and even if the best case scenario is it runs like clockwork, letting someone else fly my pride and joy and potentially having an accident and blowing it up? nah fam
that was really poignant

That's like the moral of most action sports documentaries: our lives are super valuable but never taking a risk makes them worthless

I have no doubt the plane was fully inspected before they flew it, as with any kit/built aircraft.

lol ur just mad because you can't pretend your tom hardy like this guy can.

"Was building a Spitfire by hand part of your plans?"
"Of course!"

nah I prefer to pretend like I'm Tom cruise in top gun.
But on a serious note though, I really get super skeptical when it comes to videos like this especially ones from from this channel who claim to tell great """true""" stories. Quotation marks because while they never claim that their content is 100% true they still present it as if it is.
Its not the first time on their videos where someone says shit they pull out of their ass and it pretty much ruins the greatness out of the "Great big stories". And especially in this case, one would think a pilot would know the characteristics and limitations of an aircraft he flies in, it ends up sounding like the guy is reading off a script done by a writer who knows jack rather than someone telling his "true" story.

Mach does not mean shit either. It changes with altitude. Mach 1 on the ground is about 100 kmh faster than mach one at 10 000m
There is a ton of reasons why this plane won't last a quarter of a minute at any true air speed faster than 750kmh
Basically at the same time you'll have the engine overspeeding, the prop eating itself, the wings folding under the pressure, the command surfaces being inverted before getting unresponsive, and the whole airplane fluttering and destroying its sturcture.
I would be so pissed not being able to fly my plane I sent 14 years building.
God damn the sound the Merlin engine made when it fired up.

You'd be surprised what some people are totally fine with doing...

I want to fly a spitfire so badly. It's been my favorite aircraft since I was a little kid.
