I get a lot of mixed reactions to this so let me have your opinion on the matter:
When I give someone a gift I try to wrap it in a nice box or bag but they cost so much that I insist on getting the packaging back so I can reuse it. My mother is mortified by this and my girlfriend gets embarrassed but why should I spend money on a ton of wrapping when I can spend that much more on the gift?
I know it's tacky but I have no shame and even less money.
just don't do it in front of others
No, you just need to be more polite.
If you're that thrifty with your money, why not just use some cheaper paper?
I'd much prefer someone giving me a gift in crap paper than asking for it back later.
Yes, it's tacky, cheap and completely weird.
If you need to reuse packaging, just use the packaging you get from gifts others give you. As opposed to ask them to return it to you.
People actually care that much about the wrapping?
I mean I think this is sort of weird to do, but I wouldn't care as long as I got what I wanted.
Steal them.
Doesn't the wrapping paper get ripped up? And also you are killing the spirit.
You can get more wrapping paper, it's that simple. Shit, my family's been using the same 3 rolls of wrapping paper for about 10 years. We struck a good deal, don't judge us. (We also use newer ones as well, so we aren't cheap.)

I.....I do reuse those given to me and at parties I take other people's as well.
IN MY DEFENSE I'm not talking about paper but bags and boxes.

Or not wrapping at all. Use an opaque bag.

So then don't use bags and boxes?
OP you shmuck stop it.

It's more eco-friendly than paper because it CAN be re-used.

If you want to REALLY kill christmas spirit then just give them the gift, unwrapped and all.
Achieves the same thing with no holiday cheer involved.

The difference it makes is less than turning the lights off at night.
Just use old newspapers, say it's the hip new thing then you don't have to be so insane.
Go to a liquor store and get shit loads of boxes, that's what we did when we moved.
My grandpa does this.
It's VERY awkward when we visit.

I do that too so look at how green I'm being.
That seems really cheap.
Don't be surprised if you get visited by 3 ghosts on Christmas eve.
Also instead of asking for it back you could always offer to take out the Christmas trash.
my parents do that
doing this makes you literally worse than hitler
you sound like the kind of guy who would steal french fries off of his friend's plate
Just ask for the paper after the xmas thing is over saying you want to recycle them.
Well you see I spend my days after Christmas dumpster diving and getting all the wrapping i need because im fucking weird like that
Yes, you are practically a Christmas exorcist.
Yes, you should gift me games to get it back to normal
