WikiLeaks offers $20,000 for help finding DNC staffer’s killer amid conspiracy rumors
The speculation started within days of Seth Rich being gunned down in what D.C. police believe was an attempted robbery near his townhouse in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Northwest Washington.
Some on the Internet wondered if Rich was killed because of his work as a staffer with the Democratic National Committee, even suggesting he had handed WikiLeaks the 20,000 emails that embarrassed the DNC and forced the ouster of its chairwoman. Others suggested he was helping the FBI expose wrongdoing in the presidential election, and that made him a target.
On Tuesday, WikiLeaks shoved those conspiracy theories into the mainstream when it announced on Twitter a $20,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in Rich’s killing on July 10 in the 2100 block of Flagler Place NW. It adds to a $25,000 reward offered by D.C. police, customary in all District homicides.
Rich’s father, Joel I. Rich, said he was offended by what he termed “bizarre” reports that are circulating on Internet discussion and message boards. Rich and his wife, Mary Ann, who live in Nebraska where their son grew up, visited the location of the shooting last week and appealed for help in finding the killer.
On Tuesday, Joel Rich said that the WikiLeaks reward seemed to legitimize the rumor mill. “I don’t think I want to comment,” he said at first, then added, “I hope the additional money helps find out who did this.” But, he said, “I don’t want to play WikiLeaks’ game.”
Rich was shot twice in the back as he walked to his townhouse about 4:20 a.m. Nothing was taken, but police have said attempted robbery is their leading theory for a motive, noting a spike in robberies in the neighborhood in the preceding weeks. WikiLeaks released the trove of emails later that month, on July 22.
Rich, 27, had worked for the DNC for two years and helped develop a computer program to make it easier for people to find polling places on Election Day. After his death, the DNC’s then-chairwoman, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), attended a vigil for Rich in front of his home, and Hillary Clinton, before she was nominated in her run for president, evoked his name during a speech in which she advocated for limiting the availability of guns.

2016 can't get any better right guys?
Wikileaks really has gone off the deep end, hasn't it?
Wikileaks really has gone off the deep end, hasn't it?
It's good to see more and more people realising that Assange isn't just a good guy looking for the truth but in reality is an unhinged narcissist in contact with Russia, and to see more and more people turning against them and him.

I'm having trouble understanding what is so horrible about offering a reward to find a murderer?
Wikileaks really has gone off the deep end, hasn't it?
Pretty sure that happened cira 2011 when they published the dimplomatic cables in full with no redacted information.
There was a reason Snowden did not go to Wikileaks and went with journalists.
I'm having trouble understanding what is so horrible about offering a reward to find a murderer?
Yes, that's all they're doing. Nothing to do with stirring up Clinton kill list conspiracies (likely to benefit Russia and Trump) at all. They just want to solve a good old ordinary murder.

Wouldn't finding the murderer help extinguish Clinton conspiracy theories? You're seriously complaining that they want to find out who murdered this guy?
"We need transparency in things & in government actions here is some proof"
"Wow this guy is a madman Russian informant and our ENEMY"
Publishing the data of every woman in Turkey isn't 'transparency'. No government in the world can operate with the transparency they demand. I don't have a problem with leaks in principle - for example, the Panama Papers, and for the most part, the Snowden leaks were well handled. Not the case with the completely uncensored publications of Wikileaks, which always also deliberately aim in a pro-Russian and anti-Western direction, which I'm sure is pure coincidence of course.
Wouldn't finding the murderer help extinguish Clinton conspiracy theories? You're seriously complaining that they want to find out who murdered this guy?
Can you really not see what they're trying to do by offering this reward? It's pretty transparent even by Wikileaks standards. They're not really trying to solve it. They're trying to stir conspiracy to benefit Trump by implying it was a Clinton murder without any evidence. Why else would they be offering a reward other than for these implications? I don't think they're routinely interested in ordinary murders.

Are they even trying.
I really hope Wikileaks blows their crediblity to shit with these little stunts. Never really trusted them for a while. Their election tomfoolery confirms my judgement.
The only thing good Wikileaks did was their leaks related to the TPP/TTIP/TISA Trade deals, TPP, is so on extreme life support (one supporter admitted very little chance of it passing), TTIP was already dead in the water even thought they tried to keep talks open.
Are they even trying.
Generally, the police don't leap to "IT WAS ORDERED BY A POLITICAL CANDIDATE" when someone is shot to death in a region with a noted increase in robberies.
If they just want to say Clinton assassinated him, what's stopping WikiLeaks from declaring that Seth gave them leaked documents? The entire conspiracy is based on the premise that he was working with WikiLeaks to expose the DNC.
Are they even trying.
2 shots to the back of the head declared as attempted robbery is the most hilariously retarded murder theory ever.
how much do you get paid per post dude
jesus christ
"He doesn't belive in my conspiracy theories! Someone must be paying him!"

I don't even know how to respond, lol. Who cares if they're stirring conspiracy theories? Let's just assume that Wikileaks really is in the pocket of Trump and Russia. Explain to me what harm there is in investigating a murder of a DNC staffer? If they find the murderer and you're so absolutely positive that nothing suspicious happened here, then the DNC will be exonerated when they find out it was just some run of the mill mugging, and if the murderer ends up being some super secret assassin or whatever they're hoping for.. Well, then they'd have been proved right? You're literally arguing against people seeking out a resolution to a somewhat suspicious murder case because you're so convinced Wikileaks is somehow going to single-handedly make Trump win despite him having something like an 8% chance of victory at this point.
"conspiracy theories"
The dude is literally complaining about people calling for a thorough investigation on a suspicious murder.
Yeah, this would be a cool move if it wasn't such a transparent move to rile-up the conspiracy weirdos.
Generally, the police don't leap to "IT WAS ORDERED BY A POLITICAL CANDIDATE" when someone is shot to death in a region with a noted increase in robberies.
No, but how does "robbery" make any sense for someone being shot in the back and left with all of their possessions? It's about as much of a robbery as it is a rape, but don't let that get in the way of being extremely smarmy and condescending to anybody who points out that it's kind of silly to call it a robbery with nothing taken. There's a lot of middleground between "robbery" and "DNC assassination" they could have gone with.

God forbid we investigate a murder, oh my heavens! The evil conspiracy weirdos, who already believe it was a conspiracy, will believe it even harder! Let's all just collectively agree that it was nothing and move on, right?

Because their anti-Clinton ulterior motives are blatantly obvious. Look at how much Wikileaks has been putting out on Clinton and tell me there isn't something going on there, especially with how the only reasons to believe he would be killed for political reasons are "What if????" nonsense:
Some on the Internet wondered if Rich was killed because of his work as a staffer with the Democratic National Committee, even suggesting he had handed WikiLeaks the 20,000 emails that embarrassed the DNC and forced the ouster of its chairwoman. Look at this. "He might have given wikileaks the emails" and "He might have been trying to expose wrongdoing". The only reason to believe this is anything more than another murder is "B-BUT CLINTON THO".

Not that uncommon robberies have little or nothing taken. Often the thieves weren't intending to shoot and kill someone, realise they made a mistake and run away to avoid getting caught ASAP.
But whatever, you once read a Clinton kill list on the Internet from right wing loons on the Internet, and then you realised Clinton is American Hitler killing people left and right despite there being no evidence.
Then you probably shouldn't demonize Wikileaks' actions to push for investigation because if a fair investigation occours it'd push the "conspiracy weirdos" away, unlike keeping the silence
If you think that conspiracists will believe the official story about his murder you're sorely mistaken. It'll just evolve into "CLINTON PAID OFF THE POLICE TO COVER IT UP"

Here, I think this post was for you:
christ could you strawman any harder
I'm not even implying it was a conspiracy! I'm literally just defending Wikileaks' decision to offer a cash reward for finding the murderer! I'm advocating for finding the murderer of a DNC staffer, and you're going off on some nonsense about me thinking Clinton is Hitler based on some ridiculous preconceived idea of what my beliefs are that you just made up on the spot. Get over yourself and quit acting like you're so above me and everyone else who doesn't immediately condemn Wikileaks for making the DNC look bad (with their own emails) and trying to solve a murder.

Right, 2 shots to the back of the head is a common mistake muggers commit.
Like, I'm not even saying that it was the Clintons. But it's flat out retarded to say that it was an attempted robbery, for all we know he could have been in debt with the mafia.
If you think that conspiracists will believe the official story about his murder you're sorely mistaken. It'll just evolve into "CLINTON PAID OFF THE POLICE TO COVER IT UP"
So if conspiracy theorists are so helplessly stupid that they'll believe it's a conspiracy regardless of what is happening in reality, who gives a shit if Wikileaks helps find the murderer?
Right, 2 shots to the back of the head is a common mistake muggers commit.
Because obviously no mugger could accidentally shoot someone twice in the back of the head. Only the spies and contract killers do that! I've seen James Bond and Bourne, I know what I'm talking about!
Right, 2 shots to the back of the head is a common mistake muggers commit.
So what do you think the murder was, then. And why can't the police handle it without a pro-Russian media outlet interfering if it wasn't some grand Clinton conspiracy murder with the police bought up.
So if conspiracy theorists are so helplessly stupid that they'll believe it's a conspiracy regardless of what is happening in reality, who gives a shit if Wikileaks helps find the murderer?
Because it drums up anti-hillary nonsense that only works to hurt her campagin unrightfully.
