The vintage Commodore 64 personal computer is getting a makeover, with a new design and some of the latest computing technologies, as the brand gets primed for a comeback. The Commodore 64 was a home computer running on an 8-bit processor released by Commodore International in 1982. The computer was one of the most popular models of all time, selling close to 17 million units between 1982 and 1994, according to the Computer History Museum. The revamped computer will be available through the Commodore USA online store, which is set to open June 1, according to the company's Web site. The computer will be an all-in-one keyboard, with Intel's 64-bit quad-core microprocessors and 3D graphics capabilities, according to the site. To conform with the times, the PC also offers up to 500GB of hard drive storage and 4GB of RAM. Also included are a DVD-RW drive, a touchpad, four USB ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port and a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) port to connect monitors. No price information was given on the Web site.
Source: http://www.pcworld.com/article/191896/commodore_64_awakes_from_slumber_with_makeover.html I no longer have to mourn not having the commodore 64 in my childhood. Umm so it is just a normal computer. With the Commodore name. So.
500GB? That's more than mine. :saddowns:
My uncle has one of the original machines.
Umm so it is just a normal computer. With the Commodore name. So.
Same style as the old C64. I suppose anybody with that nostalgia may be filled with glee. Plus, the design is basically just a keyboard and touchpad, with a computer in that. Compact, it just means you need a display wherever you're going.

Didn't think anything of it until I saw that the computer IS the keyboard. Do want.
I... I want it.
Do want.
Oh. In that case that is kind of cool very compact
4GB of RAM. So shouldn't it be called the Commodore 4194304
No graphics card? :raise:
No graphics card? :raise:
Who needs one when you have 3D graphics capabilities?! From the site:
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3100. 3D enhancements enable greater flexibility and scalability and improved realism with support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0c Shader Model 2.0, OpenGL 1.4. Intel® Graphics also support the highest levels of the Windows 7 Aero experience. Stunning media, incredible visuals and new 3D capabilities. For business users, Intel validates the chipset, processor, graphics and software stack to provide a well-tested platform with support for Microsoft* Windows 7,Vista, Windows* XP, Linux (top distributions) and OS/2 (SciTech). Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) 3.0 supports up to 289MB of Shared Video Memory; system memory is allocated where it is needed dynamically. Supports built-in Dual/Multi-Monitor windows displays using LCD monitor & DVI external display.
Holy fuck Commodore returns to kick some more ass?
So... A computer like this: Running games like this:
I still have my old C64 somewhere.
Yes, but sadly on low settings :(
not without a graphics card you won't but then again i don't think this is meant to be a gaming PC
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 lol
This makes me want and old C64 even more.
no more mashing my keyboard when I get mad if I get that computer :(
That's pretty cool.
Umm so it is just a normal computer. With the Commodore name. So.
Commodore hasn't made any computers in years, and this thing kicks the shit out of any other prebuilt out there.
I still have a couple of C-64s around somewhere. I hop on ever so often to play boulder dash. Good times.
I would actually prefer them to sell the old computers, I've been wanting one for awhile. These are neat, but I would rather not pay for something that is pretty much a screen-less laptop. :|
What's the cooling system on this thing like?
now bring back the snes
Cool, and it only took them 28 years to do it :v:
deja vu
It looks cool, but I wonder why I'd ever need one. If the video card is good enough, it could be a great home-theater PC for stuff like XBMC or Boxee also, their website design is very amateur-ish and it's obvious they haven't bothered with getting a real web guy on board
