Because all those darned Pink Floyd lyrics have to go somewhere. Simple, really. Just post any song lyrics you find cool, funny, heartwarming or thought-provoking. Or just generally awesome. Who knows, you might discover some cool new bands, too! :buddy: Anyway: Hear the sound of music drifting in the aisles Elevator prozac stretching on for miles The music of the future will not entertain It's only meant to repress and neutralise your brain Soul gets squeezed out Edges get blunt Demographic Gives what you want The Sound of Muzak by Porcupine Tree [sp]"oh boy it's this thread again" probably.[/sp]
Weird, I was pretty much planning on posting Porcupine Tree here, but I've been ninja'd by the OP :v: Anyway have some Riverside, from the buildup of Dance with the Shadows. Just generally love the lyrics for this section, always end up grinning like a retard by the last line I'm standing on the edge, about to fall In the middle of the point of no return Trying to forget those days I failed to act I'm not going to back out I've come too far I can almost see the light Feel its warmth And touch the moment I was waiting for so long I carried all before me Now the die is cast With open arms I'm standing out against my past

Posted this in another thread awhile ago but anyways
Really don't mind if you sit this one out. My words but a whisper -- your deafness a SHOUT. I may make you feel but I can't make you think. Your sperm's in the gutter -- your love's in the sink. So you ride yourselves over the fields and you make all your animal deals and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick. And the sand-castle virtues are all swept away in the tidal destruction the moral melee. The elastic retreat rings the close of play as the last wave uncovers the newfangled way. But your new shoes are worn at the heels and your suntan does rapidly peel and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick. And the love that I feel is so far away: I'm a bad dream that I just had today -- and you shake your head and say it's a shame. Spin me back down the years and the days of my youth. Draw the lace and black curtains and shut out the whole truth. Spin me down the long ages: let them sing the song. See there! A son is born -- and we pronounce him fit to fight. There are black-heads on his shoulders, and he pees himself in the night. We'll make a man of him put him to trade teach him to play Monopoly and to sing in the rain. The Poet and the painter casting shadows on the water -- as the sun plays on the infantry returning from the sea. The do-er and the thinker: no allowance for the other -- as the failing light illuminates the mercenary's creed. The home fire burning: the kettle almost boiling -- but the master of the house is far away. The horses stamping -- their warm breath clouding in the sharp and frosty morning of the day. And the poet lifts his pen while the soldier sheaths his sword. And the youngest of the family is moving with authority. Building castles by the sea, he dares the tardy tide to wash them all aside. The cattle quietly grazing at the grass down by the river where the swelling mountain water moves onward to the sea: the builder of the castles renews the age-old purpose and contemplates the milking girl whose offer is his need. The young men of the household have all gone into service and are not to be expected for a year. The innocent young master -- thoughts moving ever faster -- has formed the plan to change the man he seems. And the poet sheaths his pen while the soldier lifts his sword. And the oldest of the family is moving with authority. Coming from across the sea, he challenges the son who puts him to the run. What do you do when the old man's gone -- do you want to be him? And your real self sings the song. Do you want to free him? No one to help you get up steam -- and the whirlpool turns you `way off-beam. LATER. I've come down from the upper class to mend your rotten ways. My father was a man-of-power whom everyone obeyed. So come on all you criminals! I've got to put you straight just like I did with my old man -- twenty years too late. Your bread and water's going cold. Your hair is too short and neat. I'll judge you all and make damn sure that no-one judges me. You curl your toes in fun as you smile at everyone -- you meet the stares. You're unaware that your doings aren't done. And you laugh most ruthlessly as you tell us what not to be. But how are we supposed to see where we should run? I see you shuffle in the courtroom with your rings upon your fingers and your downy little sidies and your silver-buckle shoes. Playing at the hard case, you follow the example of the comic-paper idol who lets you bend the rules. So! Come on ye childhood heroes! Won't you rise up from the pages of your comic-books your super crooks and show us all the way. Well! Make your will and testament. Won't you? Join your local government. We'll have Superman for president let Robin save the day. You put your bet on number one and it comes up every time. The other kids have all backed down and they put you first in line. And so you finally ask yourself just how big you are -- and take your place in a wiser world of bigger motor cars. And you wonder who to call on. So! Where the hell was Biggles when you needed him last Saturday? And where were all the sportsmen who always pulled you though? They're all resting down in Cornwall -- writing up their memoirs for a paper-back edition of the Boy Scout Manual. LATER. See there! A man born -- and we pronounce him fit for peace. There's a load lifted from his shoulders with the discovery of his disease. We'll take the child from him put it to the test teach it to be a wise man how to fool the rest. QUOTE We will be geared to the average rather than the exceptional God is an overwhelming responsibility we walked through the maternity ward and saw 218 babies wearing nylons cats are on the upgrade upgrade? Hipgrave. Oh, Mac. LATER In the clear white circles of morning wonder, I take my place with the lord of the hills. And the blue-eyed soldiers stand slightly discoloured (in neat little rows) sporting canvas frills. With their jock-straps pinching, they slouch to attention, while queueing for sarnies at the office canteen. Saying -- how's your granny and good old Ernie: he coughed up a tenner on a premium bond win. The legends (worded in the ancient tribal hymn) lie cradled in the seagull's call. And all the promises they made are ground beneath the sadist's fall. The poet and the wise man stand behind the gun, and signal for the crack of dawn. Light the sun. Do you believe in the day? Do you? Believe in the day! The Dawn Creation of the Kings has begun. Soft Venus (lonely maiden) brings the ageless one. Do you believe in the day? The fading hero has returned to the night -- and fully pregnant with the day, wise men endorse the poet's sight. Do you believe in the day? Do you? Believe in the day! Let me tell you the tales of your life of your love and the cut of the knife the tireless oppression the wisdom instilled the desire to kill or be killed. Let me sing of the losers who lie in the street as the last bus goes by. The pavements ar empty: the gutters run red -- while the fool toasts his god in the sky. So come all ye young men who are building castles! Kindly state the time of the year and join your voices in a hellish chorus. Mark the precise nature of your fear. Let me help you pick up your dead as the sins of the father are fed with the blood of the fools and the thoughts of the wise and from the pan under your bed. Let me make you a present of song as the wise man breaks wind and is gone while the fool with the hour-glass is cooking his goose and the nursery rhyme winds along. So! Come all ye young men who are building castles! Kindly state the time of the year and join your voices in a hellish chorus. Mark the precise nature of your fear. See! The summer lightning casts its bolts upon you and the hour of judgement draweth near. Would you be the fool stood in his suit of armour or the wiser man who rushes clear. So! Come on ye childhood heroes! Won't your rise up from the pages of your comic-books your super-crooks and show us all the way. Well! Make your will and testament. Won't you? Join your local government. We'll have Superman for president let Robin save the day. So! Where the hell was Biggles when you needed him last Saturday? And where were all the sportsmen who always pulled you through? They're all resting down in Cornwall -- writing up their memoirs for a paper-back edition of the Boy Scout Manual. OF COURSE So you ride yourselves over the fields and you make all your animal deals and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.
[editline]25th March 2011[/editline] Plus:
"Do you still see me even here?" (The silver cord lies on the ground.) "And so I'm dead", the young man said over the hill (not a wish away). My friends (as one) all stand aligned although their taxis came too late. There was a rush along the Fulham Road. There was a hush in the Passion Play. Such a sense of glowing in the aftermath ripe with rich attainments all imagined sad misdeeds in disarray the sore thumb screams aloud, echoing out of the Passion Play. All the old familiar choruses come crowding in a different key: Melodies decaying in sweet dissonance. There was a rush along the Fulham Road into the Ever-passion Play. And who comes here to wish me well? A sweetly-scented angel fell. She laid her head upon my disbelief and bathed me with her ever-smile. And with a howl across the sand I go escorted by a band of gentlemen in leather bound NO-ONE (but someone to be found). All along the icy wastes there are faces smiling in the gloom. Roll up roll down, Feeling unwound? Step into the viewing room. The cameras were all around. We've got you taped; you're in the play. Here's your I.D. (Ideal for identifying one and all.) Invest your life in the memory bank; ours the interest and we thank you. The ice-cream lady wets her drawers, to see you in the passion play. Take the prize for instant pleasure, captain of the cricket team public speaking in all weathers, a knighthood from a queen. All of your best friends' telephones never cooled from the heat of your hand. from your hand..... There's a line in a front-page story, 13 horses that also-ran. also ran..... Climb in your old umbrella. Does it have a nasty tear in the dome? in the dome..... But the rain only gets in sometimes and the sun never leaves you alone, you alone..... you alone..... you alone..... you alone..... Lover of the black and white it's your first night. The Passion Play, goes all the way, spoils your insight. Tell me how the baby's made, how the lady's laid, why the old dog howls in sadness. And your little sister's immaculate virginity wings away on the bony shoulders of a young horse named George who stole surreptitiously into her geography revision. (The examining body examined her body.) Actor of the low-high Q, let's hear your view. Peek at the lines upon your sleeves since your memory won't do. Tell me: how the baby's graded, how the lady's faded, why the old dogs howl with madness. All of this and some of that's the only way to skin the cat. And now you've lost a skin or two, you're for us and we for you. The dressing room is right behind, We've got you taped, you're in the play. How does it feel to be in the play? How does it feel to play the play? How does it feel to be the play? Man of passion rise again, we won't cross you out: for we do love you like a son, of that there's no doubt. Tell us: is it you who are here for our good cheer? Or are we here for the glory, for the story, for the gory satisfaction of telling you how absolutely awful you really are? There was a rush along the Fulham Road. There was a hush in the Passion Play. The Story Of The Hare Who Lost His Spectacles This is the story of the hare who lost his spectacles. Owl loved to rest quietly whilst no one was watching. Sitting on a fence one day, he was surprised when suddenly a kangaroo ran close by. Now this may not seem strange, but when Owl overheard Kangaroo whisper to no one in particular, "The hare has lost his spectacles," well, he began to wonder. Presently, the moon appeared from behind a cloud and there, lying on the grass was hare. In the stream that flowed by the grass a newt. And sitting astride a twig of a bush a bee. Ostensibly motionless, the hare was trembling with excitement, for without his spectacles he appeared completely helpless. Where were his spectacles? Could someone have stolen them? Had he mislaid them? What was he to do? Bee wanted to help, and thinking he had the answer began: "You probably ate them thinking they were a carrot." "No!" interrupted Owl, who was wise. "I have good eye-sight, insight, and foresight. How could an intelligent hare make such a silly mistake?" But all this time, Owl had been sitting on the fence, scowling! A Kangaroo were hopping mad at this sort of talk. She thought herself far superior in intelligence to the others. She was their leader, their guru. She had the answer: "Hare, you must go in search of the optician." But then she realized that Hare was completely helpless without his spectacles. And so, Kangaroo loudly proclaimed, "I can't send Hare in search of anything!" "You can guru, you can!" shouted Newt. "You can send him with Owl." But Owl had gone to sleep. Newt knew too much to be stopped by so small a problem "You can take him in your pouch." But alas, Hare was much too big to fit into Kangaroo's pouch. All this time, it had been quite plain to hare that the others knew nothing about spectacles. As for all their tempting ideas, well Hare didn't care. The lost spectacles were his own affair. And after all, Hare did have a spare a-pair. A-pair. THE END We sleep by the ever-bright hole in the door, eat in the corner, talk to the floor, cheating the spiders who come to say "Please", (politely). They bend at the knees. Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs. Old gentlemen talk of when they were young of ladies lost, of erring sons. Lace-covered dandies revel (with friends) pure as the truth, tied at both ends. Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs. Scented cathedral spire pointed down. We pray for souls in Kentish Town. A delicate hush the gods, floating by wishing us well, pie in the sky. God of ages, Lord of Time, mine is the right, right to be wrong. Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs. Jack rabbit mister spawn a new breed of love-hungry pilgrims (no bodies to feed). Show me a good man and I'll show you the door. The last hymn is sung and the devil cries "More." Well, I'm all for leaving and that being done, I've put in a request to take up my turn in that forsaken paradise that calls itself "Hell" where no-one has nothing and nothing is- well -meaning fool, pick up thy bed and rise up from your gloom smiling. Give me your hate and do as the loving heathen do. Colours I've none dark or light, red, white or blue. Cold is my touch (freezing). Summoned by name - I am the overseer over you. Given this command to watch o'er our miserable sphere. Fallen from grace, called on to bring sun or rain. Occasional corn from my oversight grew. Fell with mine angels from a far better place, offering services for the saving of face. Now you're here, you may as well admire all whom living has retired from the benign reconciliation. Legends were born surrounding mysterious lights seen in the sky (flashing). I just lit a fag then took my leave in the blink of an eye. Passionate play join round the maypole in dance (primitive rite) (wrongly). Summoned by name I am the overseer over you. Flee the icy Lucifer. Oh he's an awful fellow! What a mistake! I didn't take a feather from his pillow. Here's the everlasting rub: neither am I good or bad. I'd give up my halo for a horn and the horn for the hat I once had. I'm only breathing. There's life on my ceiling. The flies there are sleeping quietly. Twist my right arm in the dark. I would give two or three for one of those days that never made impressions on the old score. I would gladly be a dog barking up the wrong tree. Everyone's saved we're in the grave. See you there for afternoon tea. Time for awaking the tea lady's making a brew-up and baking new bread. Pick me up at half past none there's not a moment to lose. There is the train on which I came. On the platform are my old shoes. Station master rings his bell. Whistles blow and flags wave. A little of what you fancy does you good (Or so it should). I thank everybody for making me welcome. I'd stay but my wings have just dropped off. Hail! Son of kings make the ever-dying sign cross your fingers in the sky for those about to BE. There am I waiting along the sand. Cast your sweet spell upon the land and sea. Magus Perde, take your hand from off the chain. Loose a wish to still, the rain, the storm about to BE. Here am I (voyager into life). Tough are the soles that tread the knife's edge. Break the circle, stretch the line, call upon the devil. Bring the gods, the gods' own fire. In the conflict revel. The passengers upon the ferry crossing, waiting to be born, renew the pledge of life's long song rise to the reveille horn. Animals queueing at the gate that stands upon the shore breathe the ever-burning fire that guards the ever-door. Man - son of man - buy the flame of ever-life (yours to breathe and breath the pain of living): living BE! Here am I! Roll the stone away from the dark into ever-day. There was a rush along the Fulham Road into the Ever-passion Play.
I knew that the first song was by Metallica, I just couldn't put a finger on it for the first four minutes, Chaotic. At any rate, have some Opeth guys.
Floating on mist Crept up the caverns of my brain Received no warning From nothing to a life code Walk with me, you'll never leave Wait to see your spirit free Tell me how your heart's in need As I drown you in the sea Unwinding snares of distrust Your wrist in my fast grip Look me in the eye, I'm clear This is your time Face down beneath the waterline Gazing into the deep From love to death In a time span of seconds Oblivious to regret Pushed into belief In liquid cellophane Gasping for air Mercy in my eyes Is the shade of the night The piercing sounds you make Soaring higher, higher now And once left in my wake Your memory is nothing but the scars on me All over now Forgotten why I needed this Standing down Disappear into the obscure Resting days Waiting for new disease Biding time Locked inside insanity It always burns within The downward spiral never ends When driven into sin Your salvation's found in a sinner's deed The devil guides the way Tells me what to say Pours himself inside And snuffs the final light Deliverance Thrown back at me Deliverance Laughing at me

Unwinding snares of distrust Your wrist in my fast grip Look me in the eye, I'm clear This is your time
lol unwinding snares of distrust
lol unwinding snares of distrust
Yeah I crack up at that line every damn time I hear the song.
Love these lyrics.
This night will fall like any other Daylight subsides and shadows crawl Out from under black corners Hiding something stirs All so restless Cracked windows open wide Dead-bolt turns. Doors creak open Whispers and moonlight there to guide Come raise your lantern to the sky Can we illuminate this night? We'll dance like heathens round a flame While the world sleeps we are awake The black brook calls It sings a chorus While the gathering swells The flames grow tall Right before us As drums keep pounding And the masses now are fusing Bodies pressed and tangled As we revel in confusion Our inhibitions thrown into the fire Come raise your lantern to the sky Can we illuminate this night? We'll dance like heathens round a flame While the world sleeps we are awake Here in the dark we are safe from the judgement Now arm in arm locked tight so no one gets in The hell is sent. See, child, you are hellbent But hell is not where we're going Hell is where we've been Come raise your lantern to the sky And let's illuminate this night We'll dance like heathens around the flame And while the world sleeps we are awake Raise your lantern to the sky And let's illuminate this night We'll dance like heathens around the flames While the world sleeps we are awake (Raise your lantern to the sky) Yeah, we are awake (Hey, hey, hey) We are awake (Now raise your lantern to the sky) We are awake Yeah, we are awake We are awake
I really like the Neutral Milk Hotels' lyrics. Holland, 1945
The only girl I've ever loved Was born with roses in her eyes But then they buried her alive One evening, 1945 With just her sister at her side And only weeks before the guns All came and rained on everyone Now she's a little boy in Spain Playing pianos filled with flames On empty rings around the sun All sing to say my dream has come But now we must pick up every piece Of the life we used to love Just to keep ourselves At least enough to carry on And now we ride the circus wheel With your dark brother wrapped in white Says it was good to be alive But now he rides a comet's flame And won't be coming back again The Earth looks better from a star That's right above from where you are He didn't mean to make you cry With sparks that ring and bullets fly On empty rings around your heart The world just screams and falls apart But now we must pick up every piece Of the life we used to love Just to keep ourselves At least enough to carry on And here's where your mother sleeps And here is the room where your brothers were born Indentions in the sheets Where their bodies once moved but don't move anymore And it's so sad to see the world agree That they'd rather see their faces fill with flies All when I'd want to keep white roses in their eyes
The King Of Carrot Flowers pt. 1
When you were young You were the king of carrot flowers And how you built a tower tumbling through the trees In holy rattlesnakes that fell all around your feet And your mom would stick a fork right into daddy's shoulder And dad would throw the garbage all across the floor As we would lay and learn what each other's bodies were for And this is the room One afternoon I knew I could love you And from above you how I sank into your soul Into that secret place where no one dares to go And your mom would drink until she was no longer speaking And dad would dream of all the different ways to die Each one a little more than he could dare to try
First line of that song made me think of this, DudeGuy.
In this hour The tower Shall fall! Initially they rationalized with futile speculations Which brought about their ultimately fatal calculations They sewed their own eyes shut To protect them from the light Closed the doorway of their minds Barred and sealed it tight Their foolish hearts were darkened Their vacant minds deceived The lies that they exchanged for truth Became all that they believed They exchanged the incorruptible For the image of fallen man Worshiped creature rather than creator The image rather than his hand The heavens wait in silence For the coming of the end As man perfects his own imperfection Destruction closes in In the grave they chose to make their beds And now all that they've created Comes crashing down upon their heads Death is waiting In this hour The tower Shall fall!
Not really sure how.

No Rush? FOR SHAME. Neil Peart is arguably the best lyric writer in rock history. I think he's one of the best, next to the Beatles and The Who. At least read the first one, the lyrics are even good without the song (which is amazing by the way) the song is called Natural Science and you have probably heard it before.
[1. Tide Pools] When the ebbing tide retreats Along the rocky shoreline It leaves a trail of tidal pools In a short-lived galaxy Each microcosmic planet A complete society A simple kind mirror To reflect upon our own All the busy little creatures Chasing out their destinies Living in their pools They soon forget about the sea... Wheels within wheels in a spiral array A pattern so grand and complex Time after time we lose sight of the way Our causes can't see their effects [2. Hyperspace] A quantum leap forward In time and in space The universe learned to expand The mess and the magic Triumphant and tragic A mechanized world out of hand Computerized clinic For superior cynics Who dance to a synthetic band In their own image Their world is fashioned No wonder they don't understand [3. Permanent Waves] Science, like nature Must also be tamed With a view towards its preservation Given the same State of integrity It will surely serve us well Art as expression Not as market campaigns Will still capture our imaginations Given the same State of integrity It will surely help us along The most endangered species The honest man Will still survive annihilation Forming a world State of integrity Sensitive, open and strong Wave after wave will flow with the tide And bury the world as it does Tide after tide will flow and recede Leaving life to go on as it was...

Know your place in life is where you want to be Don't let them tell you that you owe it all to me Keep on looking forward...no use in looking 'round Hold your head above the ground and they won't bring you down Anthem of the heart and anthem of the mind A funeral dirge for eyes gone blind We marvel after those who sought The wonders of the world, wonders of the world Wonders of the world they wrought Live for yourself...there's no one else More worth living for Begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more Well, I know they've always told you Selfishness was wrong Yet it was for me, not you, I came to write this song

I. (Prelude) When our weary world was young The struggle of the ancients first began The gods of love and reason Sought alone to rule the fate of man They battled through the ages But still neither force would yield The people were divided Every soul a battlefield Every soul a battlefield II. (Apollo: Bringer of Wisdom) I bring truth and understanding I bring wit, and wisdom fair Precious gifts beyond compare We can build a world of wonder I can make you all aware I will find you food and shelter Show you fire to keep you warm Through the endless winter storm You can live in grace and comfort In the world that you transform The people were delighted Coming forth to claim their prize They ran to build their cities And converse among the wise But one day the streets fell silent Yet they knew not what was wrong The urge to build these fine things Seemed not to be so strong The wise men were consulted And the bridge of death was crossed In quest of Dionysus To find out what they had lost III. (Dionysus: Bringer of Love) I bring love to give you solace In the darkness of the night In the heart's eternal light You need only trust your feelings Only love can steer you right I bring laughter, I bring music I bring joy and I bring tears I will soothe your primal fears Throw off those chains of reason And your prison disappears The cities were abandoned And the forests echoed song They danced and lived as brothers They knew love could not be wrong Food and wine they had aplenty And they slept beneath the stars The people were contented And the gods watched from afar But the winter fell upon them And it caught them unprepared Bringing wolves and cold starvation And the hearts of men despaired IV. (Armageddon: The Battle of Heart and Mind) The universe divided As the heart and mind collided With the people left unguided For so many troubled years In a cloud of doubts and fears Their world was torn asunder Into hollow hemispheres Some fought themselves, some fought each other Most just followed one another Lost and aimless like their brothers For their hearts were so unclear And the truth could not appear Their spirits were divided Into blinded hemispheres Some who did not fight Brought tales of old to light My Rocinante sailed by night On her final flight To the heart of Cygnus' fearsome force We set our course Spiralled through that timeless space To this immortal place V. (Cygnus: Bringer of Balance) I have memory and awareness But I have no shape or form As a disembodied spirit I am dead and yet unborn I have passed into olympus As was told in tales of old To the city of immortals Marble white and purest gold I see the gods in battle rage on high Thunderbolts across the sky I cannot move, I cannot hide I feel a silent scream begin inside Then all at once the chaos ceased A stillness fell, a sudden peace The warriors felt my silent cry And stayed their struggle, mystified Apollo was atonished Dionysus thought me mad But they heard my story further And they wondered, and were sad Looking down from Olympus On a world of doubt and fear Its surface splintered Into sorry hemispheres They sat a while in silence Then they turned at last to me We will call you Cygnus, The God of balance you shall be VI. (The Sphere: A Kind of Dream) We can walk our road together If our goals are all the same We can run alone and free If we pursue a different aim Let the truth of love be lighted Let the love of truth shine clear Sensibility Armed with sense and liberty With the heart and mind united In a single perfect sphere
There are so many more amazing, intelligent rush lyrics, but I don't want to flood the entire thread.
hmm i like the music of rush their lyrics not so much
hmm i like the music of rush their lyrics not so much
Their mid 80's early 90's era was meh. But I feel many Rush songs really relate with me. Rush's lyrics can make people understand what the song is trying to say, without taking away any complexity.
Your Kettle by Portal is a fantastic "fuck you" song.
I could have read, I should have seen It's all in line with all you've shown. Sheltered youth that's far from over Sense of self so privilege grown Politics of avaritia Hoarding yours and seeking more. That's it, I'm through I'm not your kettle
Stranger in Your Soul by Transatlantic (it's a biggie!) This one I really connect to. The very end makes me tear up whenever I hear it, as much because of the lyrics as the music.
I: Sleeping Wide Awake Once, not so long ago I lived far below Where you are I didn't even know Home was far away, I was sleeping wide awake, Breaking down. Waiting for the sound And I can hear it now, is it all too late? 'Cause I would sell my dreams, if I could be awake. If I could be awake. There, walking into walls Piercing through the pain Here we are, reaching through the rain I almost caught a glimpse, to feel that Sunday high I would fall, this makes no sense at all And I can't hear it now, not a single word You know I strained my voice, I cannot be heard Outside the smile, the insider breaks And I would give my dreams, if I could be awake Whatever you're looking for, don't ever start looking behind Whatever you want to change, you'd better start changing your mind 'Cause everything can be done, stand up 'cause this is your time II: Hanging in the Balance Go where you're going to You can move your mind You will not decay (is always waiting) You've got nowhere to go So you look behind What you sought to find is always fading Wish to be wishless (Less) can live evermore (More) doesn't satisfy the deeper feeling Lose if you want to find (Find) what you're looking for All your dreams can live as if to satisfy the meaning Whatever you're looking for, don't ever start looking behind Whatever you want to change, you'd better start changing your mind 'Cause everything can be done, stand up 'cause this is your time Drink in the big dream But you have to wait (Wait) till you get it right at every letter Paint with the broadest strokes (Stroke) through the deepest sea (See) what you have in mind to make it better Get in on the ground floor (Floor) to ceiling is so high I will become alive, it will make sense Want always wants some more (More) never is enough (Enough) is enough, remember life is hanging in the balance Whatever you're looking for, don't ever start looking behind Whatever you want to change, you'd better start changing your mind 'Cause everything can be done, stand up 'cause this is your time III: Lost and Found Pt. 2 Don't you think if you could be lost, Don't you think that you could be found? Don't you think if you were the world, you'd turn it around? Whatever you're looking for, don't ever start looking behind Whatever you want to change, you'd better start changing your mind 'Cause everything can be done, stand up 'cause this is your time IV: Awakening the Stranger In the time it takes to be lost or found In the wake of something not for the crowd Awakening the stranger in your soul It isn't always quite that easy Awakening the stranger in your soul All the rage the world goes on outside It's alright come in here, it's safe to hide Awakening the stranger in your soul, It's more than just a thought or feeling There is no worldly danger he can't control There's so much more than what we're seeing Awakening the stranger in your soul V: Slide Give up all the reasons that you know Slide down where the timing's nice and slow Ease back and relax No figures and no facts Awakening the stranger in your soul It's alright to give up your control (Come in where it's safe, there is no I) Move along we've paid your expressway toll (Look at all the others floating by) It's the 5 AM alarm No time to use your charm Surrender is the only way to go Awakening the stranger in your soul IV: Stranger in Your Soul When you come to make love, your only goal Words cannot describe the feeling Awakening the stranger in your soul From the shadow to the deepest meaning When you come to make love, your only goal Words cannot describe the feeling Now we're here in foresight, we can behold Let's dive and never hit the ceiling There, walking into walls We're piercing through the pain But here we are, reaching through the rain I almost caught a glimpse, brighter than the sky A child grown, a stranger coming home And I can hear it now, every single word And when I strain my voice, I will be assured Outside there's a storm, but in here the big break That I might chance to dream That I might be awake Awakening the stranger in your soul
Warren Zevon was a master
Roland was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun With a Thompson gun for hire, fighting to be done The deal was made in Denmark on a dark and stormy day So he set out for Biafra to join the bloody fray Through sixty-six and seven they fought the Congo war With their fingers on their triggers, knee-deep in gore For days and nights they battled the Bantu to their knees They killed to earn their living and to help out the Congolese Roland the Thompson gunner... Roland the Thompson gunner... His comrades fought beside him - Van Owen and the rest But of all the Thompson gunners, Roland was the best So the CIA decided they wanted Roland dead That son-of-a-bitch Van Owen blew off Roland's head Roland the headless Thompson gunner (Time, time, time For another peaceful war) Norway's bravest son (But time stands still for Roland Til he evens up the score) They can still see his headless body stalking through the night In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun Roland searched the continent for the man who'd done him in He found him in Mombassa in a barroom drinking gin Roland aimed his Thompson gun - he didn't say a word But he blew Van Owen's body from there to Johannesburg Roland the headless Thompson gunner... Roland the headless Thompson gunner... Roland the headless Thompson gunner... Roland the headless Thompson gunner... The eternal Thompson gunner still wandering through the night Now it's ten years later but he still keeps up the fight In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland's Thompson gun and bought it
