I wouldn't call it a necessary positive, it's simply now that hip hop is where rock was, and that is ever present. That's not necessarily a net positive either. I'm listening to less hip hop now that I ever have before because there is a large chunk of it that fits in the same category as rock hit after grunge dialed down, it's filler. "Back in the day" when you got that download, that mixtape in whatever form it actually came in, there was 90% meat and 10% bullshit. That ratio isn't the opposite by any means but if you think the bulk of Kanye or Drake's catalog is going to remain on permanent status in any collection I happen to throw out, you have quite lost your mind, cause most of that shit is not timeless, and it is not an anthemic* permanent addition to a lifetime's journey in the aural world. While it's good to see forty years of musical struggle come to fruition, it's also the beginning of playing out. *I do not give the slightest fuck about personal nostalgia, or that the first time you saw a non-electronic nipple was to a Kanye song I think the artists that are getting mad cheddar now should be very grateful now, because that period where it gets rejected for being the music and lifestyle of the least common denominator is starting right now.
behold, the perfect melding: [editline]19th July 2017[/editline]
That's not necessarily a net positive either.
