Former FIFA vice president Jack Warner from Trinidad and Tobago was among the 14 officials charged in the Justice Department's investigation into global soccer corruption last week. On Sunday, Warner posted a video on Facebook to assert his innocence and rip the United States. To bolster his case, Warner tried to expose the U.S. of being guilty of a double standard. His proof? An article published in the wake of the indictments titled FIFA Frantically Announces 2015 Summer World Cup In United States. "If FIFA is so bad, why is it the USA wants to keep the FIFA World Cup?" Warner says on the video while holding a printout of the article. The problem? The article is from The Onion, the satirical website.
http://yahoo.thepostgame.com/blog/daily-take/201505/fifa-jack-warner-indictment-corruption-fooled-onion-article FIFA Frantically Announces 2015 Summer World Cup In United States.
Good Job Jackass
How does one miss the idea that The Onion is a joke source? I mean it could be possible to mistake such concept for an actual news source, though really an official of that stature should really know the difference. - Edit - You would think an article about "A Zamboni giving birth during a hockey game" would set off some red flags
Imagine googling for sources to prove your point and only running into satire
These days it is becoming more and more important to check your sources, prime example right here :v:
Too bad he didn't get to try this in court against a judge. I'd bring popcorn for that.
-sNip-
Could have been worse, he could have cited the Daily Mail.
Half way down the page of the cited onion article I see this:
Report: Underpaid Migrant Laborers Working 18 Hours Per Day On FIFA Legal Defense
:v:
I don't even get what he sought to accomplish with making that claim since the joke of the article was that FIFA are desperate to bribe their way out of this.
