Melbourne has been shaken by a 4.4 magnitude quake and a number of aftershocks.
The quake struck at 11.32am (AEST) this morning and shook residents for between 10 and 15 seconds across the city.
Adam Pascale, from the ES & S Seismology Research Centre said the quake’s epicentre was Korumburra in country Victoria south-east of Melbourne.
Mr Pascale said there was also a couple of magnitude 2.8 aftershocks.
Twitter users reported feeling the shakes in suburbs across the city.
Mr Pascale said Korumburra had been the epicentre for a number of 4.5 magnitude quakes in recent years, including one in March 2009.
That was about an hour and a half ago.

4.4 is literally nothing.
I get more quakes on my toilet then a 4.4.

not really
for someone that has little to no experience with earthquakes, a 4.4 could shake someone up a little bit.

Well this is sensationalist Headlines... and I've never been in a quake ( New York ), but I'm sure this scale won't do that much to me. I'll be confused, for a moment, sure, a little startled, but unless something big and scary breaks, I'm smart enough to walk it off.
You all forget that Australia is on it's own gigantic tectonic plate. This is the second earthquake I've felt in my 19 years of life, my dad said it's the second he's felt in his 55 years.
Yeah I felt it.
Thought it was the pipes under our house or something. Dunno. I just dismissed it and continued on what I was doing.

When an entire city experiences that, it makes the news.
Huh, I felt fuck all. Then again, I was asleep.
Mum was awake but said she didn't feel anything. We're in the outer Western suburbs, however - towards Werribee.
From an IRC:
(15:39:38) Tim: earthquake
(15:39:45) Mike: how bad?
(15:39:54) Mike: woah
(15:39:55) Mike: just got it here
Then according to XKCD:

Just need 5 hot pockets, KFC and a match.
You'll feel it.
I live in the city, didn't feel a thing.

Because 4.4 is nothing. I don't why this is news worthy.

It's newsworthy because Australia is absurdly tectonically stable.
come to westcoast usa (oregon), you will get a 4.4 once a month or so. :V

California gets it even more often. It's San Andreas' Fault.

That is all.
Actually felt it myself, pretty minor by the time it hit Melbourne.
Did some say...Tremors ?

I didn't notice anything. I feel like I've been left out.
Poor Australians.
didn't feel a thing
Didn't feel a thing as well, I guess it must have hit the far east.
I slept through a 6.0 earthquake that was around 45 miles away.
Well, I woke up shortly after it (since it was at about 5 AM) and said "Wow, it sure got windy last night".
4.0 isn't really that much.
