The report released Sunday in China — which defines human rights primarily in terms of improving living conditions for its 1.3 billion people— also cited gun violence in the U.S. among its examples of human rights violations, saying it was a serious threat to the lives and safety of America's citizens. The Human Rights Record of the United States in 2012 said the U.S. government continues to strengthen the monitoring of its people and that political donations to election campaigns have undue influence on U.S. policy. "American citizens do not enjoy a genuinely equal right to vote," the report said, citing a decreased turnout in the 2012 presidential election and a voting rate of 57.5 percent. The report from the information office of the State Council, or China's Cabinet, which mostly cited media reports, said there was serious sex, racial and religious discrimination in the U.S. and that the country had seriously infringed on the human rights of other nations through its military operations in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen. The U.S.'s annual global human rights report issued Friday by the State Department said China had imposed new registration requirements to prevent groups from emerging that might challenge government authority. It said Chinese government efforts to silence and intimidate political activists and public interest lawyers continued to increase, and that authorities use extralegal measures such as enforced disappearance to prevent the public voicing of independent opinions.
http://news.yahoo.com/china-criticizes-us-human-rights-record-054853559.html Full text of report: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/world/2013-04/21/c_132327175.htm
You know things are bad when China is giving us shit.
You know things are bad when China is giving us shit.
Or you just know that China are being hypocrites and making propaganda again.
Interesting to see a valid and critical appraisal of our own issues from a foreign power; the U.S has a lot of gall to critique anyone else on their human rights or democratization given it's ever so slight history of treating anyone who isn't a rich WASP like shit.
And everything goes on as usual, its not like we ever have a legitimate reason to be upset enough with the argument to do something. Lets just let whoever is being tortured and killed and kidnapped be like that so long as it doesn't affect us right?
fuck you china.
"Hello, pot? This is kettle. You're black."
Or you just know that China are being hypocrites and making propaganda again.
That may be true, but the United States government really does need to address some things.
"American citizens do not enjoy a genuinely equal right to vote," the report said, citing a decreased turnout in the 2012 presidential election and a voting rate of 57.5 percent.
Im sorry, what. Its a persons choice to vote. Everyone who is over 18 can registers to vote, and can do so.
china could do things that are 100.000 worse than what the US does and nothing would ever happen, but seriously, if the US would close guatanamo they would probably make it harder for them to get criticized on human rights issue, since its one the most GLARING inexcusable breach of human rights on the planet.
Im sorry, what. Its a persons choice to vote. Everyone who is over 18 can registers to vote, and can do so.
There are attempts in some parts of the country to change voting rules in ways that would make it harder for the poor and minorities to be able to vote, such as extensive Voter ID requirements and such. A lot of conservative states have been trying to do this. [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline] Seriously though, China doesn't give a shit. They have a far worse human rights record and the only reason they would say anything it to redirect attention from themselves.
Or you just know that China are being hypocrites and making propaganda again.
It's hypocritical, but hardly false. We do have some pretty terrible shit going on, so does China but in a slightly different way.
talk about our prison system pls
Or you just know that China are being hypocrites and making propaganda again.
Actually, they have excellent points. I think that the USA is being hypocritical when it portrays itself as having the best human rights record.
It's hypocritical, but hardly false. We do have some pretty terrible shit going on, so does China but in a slightly different way.
Like it or not just about everyone's got something in their closet, always have, probably always will, and China has a lot more than the US probably ever would.
Like it or not just about everyone's got something in their closet, always have, probably always will, and China has a lot more than the US probably ever would.
to be fair, china doesn't really care about and probably never will care about human rights, what bothers them the most, is that the US does pretty sketchy things as well, and tries to paint itself as paragon of human rights, china doesn't do that lol, just like russia doesn't even pretend to care about human rights. not that it makes it right but, welp.
Didn't a recent report say that China was suspected to have executed around 2,000 people last year, while we'd hit about 47? I can't seem to find it.
you know nothing of china
so you're saying chinese goverment cares about human rights..... really? :v:
it's not a contest
I agree, no contest. China wins hands down.
it's not a contest
Honestly, it pretty much is. It's a contest of hiding what's in your own closet while making accusations about what the others have in theirs. Whoever does best wins public support.
so you're saying chinese goverment cares about human rights..... really? :v:
Depends on who you are, your status in society, the amount of money you have, who you know and so on. If you're a Tibetan fighting for Tibet's independence from China, yeah then human rights is probably non-existent.

I find this extremely interesting. Everyone is shitting on China on a regular basis, but they're growing to become the new superpower that will replace, in time, the US. Being able to read such objective reports from China gives me hope really.
Im sorry, what. Its a persons choice to vote. Everyone who is over 18 can registers to vote, and can do so.
Well, the whole have-to-register-to-vote thing is kind of stupid.
I find this extremely interesting. Everyone is shitting on China on a regular basis, but they're growing to become the new superpower that will replace, in time, the US. "Slams" has to be the most over-used word in news titles in the history of reporting.
by that logic the US could have inadvertently committed far more human right violations than china both inland and worldwide, meaning they have the moral high ground because they're hiding it better. obviously it's retarded, and china is worse than the US when it comes to statistical human right violations, but that's not the point. dismissing any criticism thrown your way because the party that's doing the accusing is slightly worse than you are is idiotic. it is a Tu quoque fallacy. and you're not thinking hard enough if you actually assume the US is a saint compared to china. have you got any idea how much shit the CIA is responsible for, for example?
Except Tu quoque is exactly what China is doing?
China should worry about their own country before they start talking shit.
The mere idea of China calling out the USA on human rights issues is extremely ironic.
China should worry about their own country before they start talking shit.
Logic would dictate that the same would apply to America, but we certainly do a good job of talking shit about everyone else don't we?
