Much of the band's sound is inspired by Gypsy music. The band incorporates minor-key accordion and violin (and on some albums, saxophone) mixed with punk and dub.
Gogol Bordello is an energetic band that I personally love. They play a uniqe mix of punk and gypsy, and they're the type of band that you'll either love or hate. They play a lot of varied music, but it's all high paced, and you're breaking the known laws of musics if you don't at least tap your feet to one of their songs. In the lead of the band you'll find Eugene Hütz, a refugee from Chernobyl with the coolest. Moustache. Ever.
Eugene Hütz and his moustache.
An interesting note about this band, in my head, is the multiculturalism going on in it. You've got a Spanish-Latvian, a Russian, a Russian/Ukrainian/Polish Jew, a Hong Kong Chinese, an Italian/Swedish/Tobago/Trinidad, a Russia-Ukranian/Romano, an Equadorian and a Ethiopian. Now, you can't say THAT for many bands. (They're all pictured above. Click it to view their profiles) Now, they all mix a bit of music in from each of their cultures, and the result is that they sound different from any other band you've ever heard. It's got a very Eastern European ring to it though. And I love 'em. Here are a few examples of their music.
Music
(I've tried choosing a selection that portrays as much of them as possible.) Wonderlust King, undoubtedly Gogol's most known song. Start Wearing Purple, a slower pace; Not A Crime, a much higher pace; Last One Goes The Hope, a randomly selected example; Supertheory Of Supereverything, neat lyrics. I really, really recommend you check them out. They have so much more to offer then what I've posted here. Some other great ones in my opinion are Pala Tute and My Companjera... and, hell, all of them really. OP spams me Gogol all the time and now he wants me to bump this to the top because he posted it in the wrong section first and when it was moved here it ended up way down so bumpybump. <- His explanation.
Very cool band. Eugene's face (moutache included) was my Steam avatar for the longest time.
Well done, OP. I've had a copy of Super Taranta for a while now, but I've never had a chance to catch these guys live, which makes me pretty sad.
