A new London restaurant is selling what could be the most expensive cocktail in the world, setting drinkers back almost £9,000 per glass.Gigi’s, in Mayfair, created the signature drink for actress and singer Grace Jones, who appeared in James Bond film A View to a Kill alongside Roger Moore.
She attended the restaurant's launch on Friday night with friend Boy George.
“The Gigi” is a take on the champagne cocktail for the fabulously rich of Mayfair, using 1990 vintage Cristal and 1888 Samalens Vieille Relique Vintage Bas Armagnac brandy.
It is topped off with “lashings” of gold leaf, Angostura Bitters and sugar.
According to the restaurant, the astronomical £8,888 price tag takes in the cost of each full bottle of alcohol, which will produce around 12 glasses worth £708 each – or about £177 per glug based on four large mouthfuls.

No, I don't check everyday for news on expensive as fuck food/drinks, but I do post it often.
Think about how surreal it is that the wealth inequality is so bad that there are people that literally eat gold
Lets see what Data thinks of this drink

The price factor here is because of the rarity of the drinks in question, as opposed to the gold or anything else here. In fact, the gold's the cheapest luxury part of this cocktail, for an irony.
It is very frustrating to think that anybody would burn so much money on something so pointless and fleeting. Nine thousand dollars won't topple empires, but it could change somebody's life. Just think: what they're paying to get halfway to a buzz could buy somebody's way through flight school for a private pilot's license. Nine thousand dollars was my girlfriend's tuition for grooming school, which will land her a job that can earn $30k-40k a year. Nine thousand dollars is real money that can have profound impacts on somebody's life, but there are people out there who care so little about it that they literally drink it away.
I like how more and more restaurants are creating "most expensive" things
To be fair I don't think anyone expects it to actually be ordered. It's more of a publicity thing. The only time they've made one is for someone who (presumably) wasn't paying for it, so they covered the cost. It would be a sad situation if anyone had bought it as the money could have gone to something better, but it doesn't look as if that's happened or will necessarily ever happen.

If most expensive X wasn't made yet, it'll probably be a given that somebody will turn up to make it for the sake of status; the combination of the snob effect and bandwagoning.
It is overpriced bullshit.

It is overpriced because they're using very old bottles of brandy (about 125 years old) to make it. Also it's a one time only deal by the looks of things for the sake of publicity, unless other rich people also decide to order it.
Also, while this might be fucking expensive, I find it funny that kids are willing to spend over a $100 or more every night just to mix their Dom Pérignon and Moët & Chandon and then they'll probably call this a waste of money.
