he Syrian government has told Iran it will allow UN inspectors to visit areas reportedly affected by chemical weapons, according to the Iranian foreign minister, quoted on Iran's Press TV on Sunday. "We are in close contact with the Syrian government and they have reassured us that they had never used such inhumane weapons and would have the fullest co-operation with the UN experts to visit the areas affected," Mohammad Javad Zarif told Italy's foreign minister, Emma Bonino, in a telephone conversation on Saturday, Press TV reported.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/aug/25/iran-syria-allow-un-inspectors-chemical Lets see what this turns up.
They had better be prepared for the angriest letters the UN can muster.
just put a rag over it, they won't see anything
I'm pretty sure I believe the government when they say the didn't use them honestly. I mean, if they found evidence that they used them, it would spell death for the government via Western noose. The rebels would be more likely to use them chemical weapons because they're composed of so many groups that don't communicate anymore, some of which have no problem using dirty tricks like chemical or biological weapons. Plus they would have just refused them entry to the country had they used them.
That being said, it's a hornets nest. Because if the US supports the rebels, who are nearing the point that they want to implement islamic sharia law after the war is over, it will mean the end of school for girls. Remember, the Assad regime is a christian minority government, that has clamped down on islamic factions during the last 13 years. Now those groups will be let loose if the west supports them and institute an islamic nation. Ask the girls who've been going to school for years if they really want to stay at home and in burca's.

the only winning move for the US gov is not to play
But Assad is an Alawite?
I retract my statement on it being a christian minority, I had misunderstood that. However girls have been going to school in Syria for years. A practice we are not sure will continue in the future if supporting rebel groups.

The whole non-schooling thing is an Islamist extremist fantasy. The main rebel groups (which are Sunni) would fully support schooling for girls. Most, if not all, Sunni governments or governments with Sunni components support women going to school.
The Kurds support schooling, but the other rebels I'm not sure.
The kurds are pretty much a third group in syria at this point.
The kurds are pretty much a third group in syria at this point.
A third group that wants the other two groups to just fuck off and leave them alone. The U.S. should totally intervene to protect the Kurds. I'd say they'd be the best side to support of any of them.
