Updated | 12:45 p.m. A gunman fired shots at the United States Embassy in the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, on Friday.
Mark Toner, a State Department spokesman, said in a statement from Washington: “We have no reports of injuries among embassy personnel. Local law enforcement is responding. The embassy is in lockdown status.”
The Associated Press reported that one of Bosnia’s three presidents called the incident a terrorist attack.
Video of the gunman walking calmly with an automatic weapon after he fired at the embassy was posted online by a Sarajevo-based news service, SensServis.
According to Reuters, “Bosnian state radio reported that the gunman, armed with a Kalashnikov rifle, had been shot by a police sniper after a stand-off. A police spokesman said the man appeared to be wounded but still alive.” The news agency added that a hospital official told Bosnian television that one embassy security guard had been admitted with a gunshot wound to the arm.
A Bosnian television station posted this graphic video online, which appears to have been recorded at the moment that the gunman was shot by the police sniper.
At one stage in the video, as observers behind the camera can be heard debating whether the gunman is dead, he can be seen moving his head.
Citing a Sarajevo newspaper, the Belgrade radio station B-92 reported that there might have been more than one attacker, and noted that the man seen in the video was bearded in the manner of Islamist radicals.
The Sarajevo daily, Dnevni Avaz, reported in a live blog on the attack that the gunman was a 23-year-old with a Slavic name who was born in the Sandzak region of Serbia, which is home to a Muslim community. The newspaper also said that the man spent time in Gornja Moaca, an isolated village in northern Bosnian which was home to a small group of adherents of Wahabbism, a strict form of Islam.
This Bosnian television report on the incident shows police officers outside the U.S. Embassy after the shooting and reports that the gunman’s name was Mevlid Jašarević.
Most of Bosnia’s indigenous Muslim population is made up of ethnic Slavs, who were not as a whole particularly observant before they were subjected to a violent campaign of ethnic cleansing by Serbian and Croatian extremists at the start of the country’s civil war in the 1990s. During the war, hundreds of Islamist foreign fighters came to the aid of the Bosnian Muslims. Some of those men remained in the country after the Dayton peace accords were signed in 1995.
Last year, Bosnian police officers raided Gornja Moaca where some former fighters of Arab origin were reported to have established a community that practiced a strict form of Islam.
Yes, shooting at an embassy filled with several if not hundreds of innocent people, endangering their lives with the intent to kill is DEFINITELY badass.
I don't get why the OP is rated Winner.

I have no idea. At least no one was injured, let's keep those friendly ties with Bosnia!
Well he's fucked.

I think it was rated winner because the police stopped him
Eh, it's your typical Sandzaklija, he was part of the group Wahabi.
Here's the video of him getting shot.

Also I'm not sure if it's still developing when news is several hours old now.

Does anyone know whether police sniper use lower velocity rounds or smaller calibers when it comes to situations like this? Because whenever I think sniper rifle, I think a very large caliber. He looks like he was shot in a lower area so at least whomever shot him had a little more discretion than their Russian counterparts.
edit: Oh I guess he did die, never mind then.
edit edit: Nevermind I have no fucking clue :v:

Where are you reading this? A lot of initial stories said he died, but there are others, including the source in the OP, that say he was just wounded: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/28/us-bosnia-usa-embassy-idUSTRE79R3E920111028

Considering where he was when he got shot in the video Spirit_Breaker posted, he more or less is.
Oh wait you were talking about Nifae. :downs:
Hopefully this won't tie into terrorists attacks, there were already several bombing attacks on government institutions throughout the Balkan countries.
now i wonder why he did this guess will have to find out
Wait, he was killed? According to the newspapers I've been reading he wasn't even fatally wounded.
Nope,he wasn't killed. He was just shot in the leg. Stupid coverups i hate them!
I don't think they had enough officers/SWAT forces there.
Almost started WW3 right there.

Jokes aside, bitches be crazy man.
I just wonder what he was hoping to accomplish here. It's obvious he was trying to make a statement, but shooting an AK at the walls of the embassy is pretty pointless.
