• US to keep Cuba on list of state sponsors of terrorism, even though it sent condolences for Boston B
A State Department spokesman said Wednesday that Washington has no plans to remove Cuba from a list of state sponsors of terrorism that also includes Iran, Syria and Sudan. That is sure to ruffle feathers in Havana, which vehemently denies any links to terrorism. Cuba's government contends its inclusion on the list is a political vendetta by a U.S. government that has kept an economic embargo on the Communist-run island for 51 years. State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell said Washington "has no current plans to remove Cuba" from the list, which is included in the department's annual report on terrorism. The report was supposed to have been released Tuesday, but has been delayed. Officials say it is likely to come out later in May. Wednesday was a holiday in Cuba and there was no immediate comment from the government.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/us-cuba-state-sponsors-terrorism-list-19086069
While I no means agree or disagree with this decision, just because they sent condolences doesn't mean they're innocent. North Korea sent Japan $150,000 in aid after the earthquake in 2011, but the government there is still corrupt.

It's not like it's the 70's and 80's where they were actively sponsoring terrorist regimes on a wide scale in Africa.

is the usa on their own list as well?

They have or had ties to FARC, but even Colombia voted to condemn US sanctions against Cuba. Cuba is peaceful, they have good ties with tons of countries and they're a popular tourism destination. I think that the US is just trying to bully Cuba.
Cuba you so nice we invade you last
They dont have enough money anymore to sponsor terrorism.
They were? I know very little of Cuban History past the 60s.
I know that they were sponsoring a lot of the arms trade in wars like Angola.
I don't understand our grudge with Cuba. Yeah, they were USSR, and they were against us. So was fucking Russia, the ringleader of the USSR, and we have diplomatic relations with them.

They had trade and were partners with the USSR, but they were mostly independent.
Cuba is a great ally and vacation spot to every nation except USA :v:
Cuba is a great ally and vacation spot to every nation except USA :v:
It's also oppressive and many people somehow overlook its extreme flaws. Why some people continue to view it as some sort of communist paradise I don't understand. Cubans indeed had their hands in Africa decades ago but it was exactly that. Decades ago. It's by no means a good place to live in to this day but it has no where near the connections to terrorism as it once did. It should have long been removed from this list.
Cuba is a great ally and vacation spot to every nation except USA :v:
Because we fucked Castro over when he visited way back when

I don't see how things like extreme internet censorship and activist arrests are related to a 50 year old embargo.
We're waiting until Fidel dies, then we get the last laugh and we can open up all the trade we want and then turn Cuba into a parking lot.
Well of course they're terrorists, the stuff they're doing at Gitmo is downright horrify- oh, wait
Cuba is still blockaded by the USA and given a bunch of bad rep because it's one of the last surviving countries where communism/socialism actually works the way sort of the way that it should. The USA is bent on everybody capitalist, though, so they aren't going to tolerate that.
And everyone forgets that Cuba is still not a good place to live. No, it does not sponsor terrorism, but it is not some sort of wonderland either.
but it is not some sort of wonderland either.
very very few places are

Even though it's a developing country, Life expectancy is 78 years (higher than the us, behind only to Canada and Chile), and literacy rate is 99.8%. It's infant mortality rate is even less than a couple of developed countries. It's the only nation that shows environmentally sustainable development. All this from a country that is still under the embargo of one of the largest economic and military superpowers in the world. Cuba is cool, and I plan on vacationing there soon.
theres something for obama to do, set something right and open up U.S. Cuban relations, something no president has done since kennedy enacted the embargo
Cuba is cool, and I plan on vacationing there soon.
Me too, I'm planning my winter holiday there.
isnt it still illegal for americans to even vacation in cuba?
My friends always go and they have a blast. It's fairly cheap too, and the service is fantastic. [editline]2nd May 2013[/editline]
isnt it still illegal for americans to even vacation in cuba?
It's legal, but you have to do it through some agencies apparently.
We seriously need to stop this shit with Cuba. Imagine all those vintage cars that people would sell if we lift the trade embargo. And the cigars, don't forget the cigars.
They weren't exactly USSR. They had trade and were partners with the USSR, but they were mostly independent.
Maybe not in name, but they were pretty damn friendly with them, they just didn't do the official paperwork.

The only thing I remember from the people I know who visited was that there were very young women being prostitutes everywhere because they had no other recourse. Though, I suppose one could say the same thing about many countries with rampant prostitution problems.

[editline]2nd May 2013[/editline] not saying cuba is a good place, but prostitution isn't really any marker of the state of the country considering most countries have a lot of prostitutes in the city.
