Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín (No) will direct the latest version of ‘Scarface’, which this time centers around a Mexican immigrant-turned crime kingpin. The new “Scarface” will be a more mythic origin story that explores where Tony’s physical and emotional wounds come from and how they shaped him as a man.
I'll wait for more details. An origin story could potentially be cool and I don't think there's enough info just yet to make an accurate prediction.
Isn't this more or less a prequel than a actual remake of the classic?
Scarface is already a remake

a remake of a remake :I

Sounds like it.
If they are gonna do this they need to get the right actor to play Tony.
I nominate Javier Bardem.
They changed his nationality once again..
Yeah it's ok, just change it to fit your everchanging idea of mobster.
It might be good, but i doubt it. We just have to wait and see.
They might very well be Stupid fucks.
I don't like the way the message from the 1983 version was appropriated as a celebration of hedonism and gangster lifestyle by dickhead rappers, I hope this version at the very least doesn't try to cash in on that.
Why are they changing Tony's race from Cuban to Mexican? He was from Cuba in the Al Pacino movie.

And he was Italian in the original. You're probably better off accepting it and just living with it.
Why are they changing Tony's race from Cuban to Mexican? He was from Cuba in the Al Pacino movie.
Because the fact he was a former political prisoner from a communist country was completely irrelevant to his character!
And of course, it's probably gonna be called just "Scarface" too.

Well in all honesty if you legitimately consider the 1980's scarface an actual remake and not just a reimagining, you're doing it wrong.
Yeah it's a remake but only in technicality of 'there was a film made before this'. De Palma's Scarface was almost entirely different enough that it's pretty much just 'inspired by' the 1938 original.
This may be interesting though to see where it's taken now. To be honest i always thought Scarface was severely overrated to begin with. I watched it and while i did enjoy it, i feel that it's just not as deserving of the praise it received. Al Pacino's acting in it was fantastic, don't get me wrong, but there were plenty of other aspects that were very weak and the movie has been so highly rated in retrospect mostly because it became a cultural icon and it's like you're not allowed to not like it.
but Scarface isn't Mexican
I am already suspicious
sigh.
Please don't.
First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the remake.
Is there any way for people to picket Hollywood? Can we tell them to stop fucking up classic 80s movies just because some director needed bus money?

I can already see the mounds of marijuana that will be snorted in this film.
uuuugh.
Not gonna be good, ive just got a feeling.

Scarface Too would be a great name.
Obviously Jason Statham should get the role.
dont fuck me.
Starring Adam Sandler rated PG13

The widespread practice of that makes my fucking blood boil, because it makes it so transparent that whatever it is has no artistic merit and only exists to sell tickets on name recognition.
Hoping that it deviates from the preceding film like the 1983 version did.

The basic plot of both Scarface movies are the same.

Yet another one of these conversations:
"I swear, the exact same thing happened in Scarface."
"The new one?"
"No, the good one."
Let's be honest, as far as visuals went Scarface has not aged well at all.
Besides it's already a remake so might as well continue the tradition.
