More than 80 per cent of the 3.6 million EU citizens who currently live in the UK will already have the right to remain by the time Britain leaves the European Union, according to official research. The Home Office has learned that five in six EU migrants could not be legally deported and those who can will be offered an amnesty and be offered the opportunity to stay, the Telegraph has reported. Current rules state that you receive permanent residency rights once you have lived in the UK for more than five years, which almost 2.9 million would have done by 2019 – the year Britain is set to leave the EU. The proposals are yet to be confirmed but several Cabinet ministers have made assurances the plans will go ahead, according to the Telegraph. Liam Fox, the International Trade Secretary, had previously claimed he would not guarantee EU citizens could stay in the UK as it was “one of our main cards” during negotiations with the rest of Europe. The Government has come under attack from across the political spectrum for refusing to guarantee the status of EU migrants in the UK. The Prime Minister, Theresa May, has been accused by some of treating them like “bargaining chips” in the Brexit “divorce” deal negotiations. The news comes a Ms May and the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, spoke at the Conservative Party conference calling for an immigration crackdown.
This comes hot on the heels of Amber Rudd's "foreign worker list", which among other things would force companies to share the statistics of their worker's nationalities, in a "name and shame", and also Liam Fox's delightful comments that EU nationals living in the UK could be used as "bargaining chips" in negotiations, which reads a lot like "give us what we want or we'll deport your people". So I guess that's it then, unless Theresa May manages to push through a law which increases how long someone needs to live here to avoid being given the boot, the prime goal of getting the immigrants out is well and truly sunk.
If people want to know why brexit is taking so long its because of shit like this. No one has any idea how this is going to work.
Just another proof that pro-Brexit had no idea what they were doing
pro-brexit is the equivalent of "Im going to build a wall and make mexico pay for it" and then having no idea how that will actually work
At-least this means that UK people living in Europe won't get fucked over by the significant lack of insight their countrymen showed them, more than likely.
The government's attitude to immigrants has been terrifying. I've never liked the tories but I always respected them for not playing the dirty " blame the immigrants" card. The fact that companies must be forced to show how many foreigners its employed is considered normal now when not even a year ago it would be unthinkable for the government do, among other things such as naming and shaming companies who "employ foreigners over Britons" whatever the fuck that means. The 48% who voted to remain aren't being represented at all and the tories are just trying to kill UKIP by stealing its policies on immigration. Hell, even a UKIP spokesman said this was going too far and pretty much fascism in their eyes.
pro-brexit is the equivalent of "Im going to build a wall and make mexico pay for it" and then having no idea how that will actually work
The Treaty of Versailles is a good starting point, they manage to get Germany to pay back a great deal of what they had lost during the first world war. Edit: However invading Mexico is probably a bad idea if you only want to pay for a wall.
Looks like the brown people'll stay after all. Jesus Christ. This just solidifies the fact that the Leave-campaign was based on fear and lies even further. Absolutely laughable. I legit feel bad for the Remain-side.
If people want to know why brexit is taking so long its because of shit like this. No one has any idea how this is going to work.
It's because it doesn't work. The decision to Brexit and the reasons for Brexit are objectively wrong.

In Malaysia, there are already trends where companies will deliberately treat Malaysian workers differently from immigrants. Most of us believe it was done to un-recruit Malaysian workers, who will require more benefits compared to immigrants, who they can sort of 'take it easy' on their rights. For example, some company would not accept medical ceritifcates for sick days from other clinics than government clinics. This will force the Malaysian workers to go to goivernment clinics, which is free, so they'll have to wait in line for a longer times ect ect, that will discourage them from taking day off.If there's any problem with that, the Malaysian workers will be fired, and the companies can hire more cheap immigrants. There are other similar tactics for cheap workforce, sometimes even disregarding the immigrants human right, at the same time closing doors for locals to get jobs Better monitor the discrepancies of foreign-local workers, while you still can. This way any foul-play can be prevented.
I don't think deporting the millions of people already living in the UK was ever their goal, and why would it be? it was about preventing the EU from imposing immigration quotas on them.

People are by-and-large being represented. On this policy - change to by industry/job type (rather than bullying specific companies) and I support it. Then we can examine if jobs heavily taken by immigrants are because they are high-skill (researchers etc.), low-skill which Brits might want and we should try to train people here for (eg. bricklayers) and shit jobs Brits won't want anyway (fruit pickers). Additionally, add some rules about fair advertisement for jobs in Britain instead of only abroad (as occasionally happens, albeit uncommonly).
