WASHINGTON, D.C. -- While President Donald Trump has previously questioned the relevance of NATO, 80% of Americans say the alliance should be maintained. This is up from 64% when Gallup last asked Americans about their views on NATO in 1995, and the highest reading since Gallup first asked the question in 1989.

Democrats More Likely Than Republicans to Support NATO President Trump questioning NATO's relevance may have affected partisan views of the alliance. Ninety-seven percent of Democrats now support the alliance, 31 percentage points higher than in 1995. Republican support increased by five points to 69%, now making Republicans much less likely than Democrats to want NATO maintained. Nearly three-quarters of independents (74%) support NATO. The first time Gallup measured Americans' views on NATO, 80% of Republicans thought it should be maintained, compared with 69% of Democrats. The gap between the two parties shrank in each of the next three measures, and dwindled down to two points in 1995. never thought i would see a time where the republicans have sold out so hard you can argue in some ways that the democrats are the more patriotic party
never thought i would see a time where the republicans have sold out so hard you can argue in some ways that the democrats are the more patriotic party
the democrats have been the more 'patriotic' party for a long time now assuming patriotism to a normal person means believing in the good of, and doing of good for, their country the GOP have become a bastardization of a political party and i hate to see an entire voterbase completely written off in favor of mere monetary gain and private interests
Dawn, That really good people who have strong support NATO over years while oppostion and uncertain somehow still continue declining.
never thought i would see a time where the republicans have sold out so hard you can argue in some ways that the democrats are the more patriotic party
GOP have been bought and paid for by corporations for decades now, they couldn't give a rat's ass about the average citizen, let alone the nation, they just care about their bribe-I mean campaign contributions from the Koch Brothers and the like. Hell this latest iteration couldn't care less about the damn planet being turned into a toxic wasteland what with a climate change denier heading the EPA now, and a law preventing dumping of coal waste into rivers.

Politicians in general really. I honestly can't wait until the older generation dies off so we can get some younger minds in the Republican and Democrat parties. They'll still be corrupt, but they will at least know what people want.

Theres not a politician in the US thats pure and holy, and it sure as shit isn't the democrats. Did you forget the whole DNC scandal from just a few months ago?
This is much higher than I would have guessed personally. Great news. NATO is really important to the United States and global stability.

The entire pool was contaminated with evangelicals, and even Barry Goldwater opposed that. You know shit's bad when Barry Goldwater was more reasonable than an average modern Congressional Republican, and he popularized the Southern Strategy. Compared to Tea Partiers, he looked like fucking Mr. Rogers.
never thought i would see a time where the republicans have sold out so hard you can argue in some ways that the democrats are the more patriotic party
What makes it patriotic, if you don't mind?
What makes it patriotic, if you don't mind?
They aren't standing behind a populist despot for a start.
The Republicans are infatuated with America, Democrats love it with all it's flaws.
