I am 14 years old and 65 inches tall. I weigh about 130 pounds, but I want to shave of a bit. I'm looking only to lose weight, don't care about muscles. For the past few months, I've been watching what I eat. I hardly ever eat ice cream, drink soda, or go out to eat. I've also been exercising. It's actually working pretty well. Here is my plan: Weekends, Tuesday, and Thursday: I ride my bike for about 40 minutes, completing about 3 miles Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday: I jog for a mile In short, I bike 12 miles in a week and jog about 3 miles in a week. Do you think this is a good plan for what I have in mind? If not, what should I change? Also, when I've reached my goal, I want to "sustain" my weight. I want to moderately maintain my weight, of course by exercising, but I don't want to overdo it to make me underweight. What should I do when I reach this point? Thanks
The only part I can address and help you with is the fact that you shouldn't have the mentality of "I just want to lose weight, I don't care about muscles". My friend - who used to be a fatass - all of a sudden decided to fuck it and go jogging every day. He did this over the summer when school was out. I swear to God, when he came back, we all thought he had cancer. Not in a demeaning way, we were genuinely worried. He was confused at first, but then realized it was just because he'd lost so much weight. My advice to you is to get a mentality of wanting to lose weight whilst also gaining muscle. You'd end up with the best body that way, a body you'd be proud of, rather than ending up looking like a twig. [editline]1st August 2012[/editline] Oh, he ended up hitting the gym after the whole cancer fiasco. He now has the best body out of all of us.
you're already off to a good start by watching what you eat, 130 lb at 5'5" is pretty respectable follow loopoo's advice, keep the muscles in mind too
lifting is actually fun, it's better than cardio
Point taken, but should I still don't want to be Hulk, so how much strength training should I do? If it helps, I have the game Wii Fit Plus.
Ahahaha, no
130 lbs at 5'5 is fine, to me it just sounds like you're wigging out over nothing. I remember when i was 130lbs and I'm 5'6. I was skinny as hell back then so I can't imagine why you would be worrying about your weight right now
You'd have to see me. I don't wanna post pics but I am chubby. Not FAT, but I still have a bit of the belly and I want to get rid of that. If I was skinny, and 130 pounds, I wouldn't worry.
post pics, odds are you're blowing this out of proportion work on abs and obliques
I'm something along the lines of this. Again, I won't post pics that are actually me, but I guess I'll just pull this off of google images.
130lbs, lolwat at 5'5 and 14 years old and im guessing you dont lift? its probably average, slightly on the heavy side. if you want to lose weight then get that cardio in and eat well
Oh don't worry. When I started this thing at the beginning of summer, I was 140!
they're kind of right about focusing on muscle. I don't like the whole swole look and i'd rather keep my skinny body nice and lean the way it is. I'm like at that point where if i'm wearing even slightly form fitting clothing i look like a twig but it all goes away when i take off my shirt. sexy twig. :D also regarding the guy who you thought had cancer and all that jazz, he probably cut down on his food intake A LOT. i know plenty of people who look normal who rely on a solely cardio workout.
Yeah I know what you mean. I still eat full meals and stuff, but no more ice cream and that kind of crap. If I want fast food, I don't go worse than a subway.
Subways can be surprisingly unhealthy depending on what you choose. Just because it's the best out of the shittest doesn't mean it's good. Anyway, dude, go buy some dumbells and just work out at home, even do sit-ups. Running and cycling won't really get you an aesthetically appealing body, well it's cool and all but you can look even better by adding in some core workouts and stuff! Don't say "Point taken" then just dismiss it, it will actually help you and make your body a better shape.
3 miles in 40 mins on a bike? You could walk faster.
3 miles in 40 mins on a bike? You could walk faster.
Which would be 4.5 mph. On a bike?

Biking a few miles does not burn many calories unless you're going really fast or up some steep hills. Wheels are quite energy efficient. It would be better to walk those few miles. But really. Post some real pics of you, don't be ashamed. Because I used to be 65 inches and 130 lbs and I looked like a fuarking skeleton.
40? Wow I looked at it now and so the typo. Sorry it's more like 20 minutes.
First thing's first. You're 14 years old. You shouldn't give a shit if you're chubby or whatever, you're 14. You're still growing in to your body. I had a friend who in grade 3-8 had triple chins and was fat as fuck, and then in between grade 8-10 he grew from like 5'6" to 6'2" and went from being a fat bastard to an average guy. you have nothing to worry about, honestly you shouldn't lift weights or even do hard exercise at your age because when you're still developing like that you can do some serious damage if you make a mistake and it could stunt your growth. that's why most professionals would tell you don't start weight lifting until at LEAST 16, preferably 18. come back in 3-4 years and if you're still tubby and insecure about it THEN you should start doing cardio etc. but for now let your body grow
you could not be more wrong. weight lifting doesn't stunt growth if you don't do anything stupid. how do you think your fat friend got thin? he started thinking about what he ate, and how much he exercised.
Yeah if I hadn't stopped eating unhealthy food like I did and not stay fit, I'd be huge
you could not be more wrong. weight lifting doesn't stunt growth if you don't do anything stupid. how do you think your fat friend got thin? he started thinking about what he ate, and how much he exercised.
No, no he definitely didn't. He still ate a pound of pasta every other day and had the exact same diet. Literally the only thing that changed was that he grew in to his body. you shouldn't give a shit if you're tubby at 14, you're a kid and you should enjoy being a kid while you can. once you grow in to your body properly then you can worry about how it looks [editline]6th August 2012[/editline] also i was referring to injuries resulting in stunted growth. weight lifting on it's own won't stunt your growth, but if you're an inexperienced, small, weak kid and you try to do an exercise improperly you an quite easily injure yourself and that definitely has a possibility of stunting your growth depending on the injury.
yeah it's pretty easy to take your head off without a spotter doing bench presses or crushing your lungs and heart. [editline]6th August 2012[/editline] actually shit almost happened to me once. i was doing bench presses without a spotter and i did like half a rep and couldn't hold on to the bar anymore. thank god just screaming HELP in that situation makes 5 people rush to you and grab the barbell so you won't fucking die.
The worse that has ever happened to me was probably falling off my bike. That injury stunted my growth by making my elbows feel sore for a week (gasp!)

It has nothing to do with actual physiologically. A fat person is a fat person, regardless of age. If being fat bothers him he shouldn't excuse himself of exercise because "he's 14 and should enjoy himself" as he obviously is not enjoying himself. Injuries even if they were to happen, won't stunt his growth. Just like if he broke his leg, like most kids his age, he won't stop growing. Every time I lost the bar, it was my fault; I wasn't listening to body saying "you're tired today" or "this weight is too heavy today".
my body is different. it tells me "no more" as i collapse.
Are youj training to failure? Stop one rep short.
the fuck you think i do. i just do it by sets, not by how many i can do.
