Days after Hitler’s suicide a group of American soldiers, French prisoners, and, yes, German soldiers defended an Austrian castle against an SS division—the only time Germans and Allies fought together in World War II. Andrew Roberts on a story so wild that it has to be made into a movie.
Pretty interesting. Ok, that is pretty weird I'm also betting they German Army soldiers joined the Americans because by surrendering, they had disobeyed orders not too surrender and thus the SS would have shot them for it
Why the fuck isn't this a movie yet? Hollywood would love this kind of stuff.

Edit: Which shouldn't surprise me as the majority of the soldiers by then in most of all the branches were done by then.
That would be an awesome game too. A nice change of pace from ALL GERMANS ARE BAD SHOO THE GERMANS.
-i meant in a general view from people, not what they actually did-
This'd be nice to see. America seems to love WW2 as an example of heroism, because it was the last time that they could fight a war and say with no doubts that they were the heroic good guys with no moral ambiguity in the eyes of the public at large.
Defending our ally in South Korea wasn't heroic?

SS soldiers are basically zealots. There were a few instances in where some camps and holdouts had to be fought even after the official surrender.

I always thought that certain stories would be amazing to tell from the German point of view, about Germans who fought for their country, and not for the nazis. This seems like an interesting story to tell.
Cool. I love WW2 history, it's such a horrible yet fascinating period in human history.
That would be an awesome game too. A nice change of pace from ALL GERMANS ARE BAD SHOO THE GERMANS.
I've been wanting a brothers in arms game from the German perspective for years. There is so much story potential its crazy. [editline]14th May 2013[/editline] WWII was the last great war to be fought on this earth.
Or how about a time travel game, where a modern German division is sent back in time to fight the nazis? Modern weapons and vehicles against those available in the 40s, as well as clashing ideologies and cultures would make a pretty awesome game.
SS soldiers are basically zealots. There were a few instances in where some camps and holdouts had to be fought even after the official surrender.
That had really cool uniforms though
It was called Darkest of Days
That had really cool uniforms though
Indeed, I love those uniforms and that is why I like the Commisairs in WH40K(who were no doubt inspired by the SS uniforms). Thanks Hugo Boss for giving the Germans such nice outfits.... Anyway, Most of the germans never voted for hitler and the Wehrmacht was on the same levelish as the Allied armies in morale, only the SS and the core Nazi Party were people who did the horrible things.
Put in an oppressed Jew sub plot, instant oscar
two german friends, one fighting for the ss and one fighting for the allied german soliders. there's just too much
two german friends, one fighting for the ss and one fighting for the allied german soliders. there's just too much
While both being secretly Jewish homosexuals.
While both being secretly Jewish homosexuals.
Make sure they are black homosexual lovers too. They wear white paint so the Commandant doesn't notice and send them to the camps
Americans, the French, and German Soldiers holding up in a Castle doing a last stand against the SS? Wow, even though they are considering a movie now they should've done this years ago.
This'd be nice to see. There was no good or bad side in all of this, there were just conflicting sides and arbitrary impositions on the account of those trampled beneath the feet of war.

I know this because I played that god awful game. What Chronische was talking about actually sounds extremely interesting.

The russians, the allies? Perhaps there are neonazis in the group who lead some people to join the nazis, giving them advanced technology? All kinds of cool things could happen. Too bad a game like that will never, ever be made.
