One you play MD you know were almost guaranteed that one of the DLCs is gonna be an intro into the events before MD but after HR. Probably about Jensen's time in [sp]Alaska after Panchaea[/sp]
tbh deus ex was never very subtle in its themes or writing anyway
Cyber-racism is just kinda stupid as a driving theme though. There's so much that can be done with cybernetic augmentation that isn't as cliche as inequality.
Even HR touched on the topic of how the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry was banking hard on cybernetics, marking up neuropozyne to insane prices since it's a required medication that prevents the body from rejecting implants. Like shit, I haven't explored the entire cyberpunk genre but usually healthcare either A. Never gets brought up, or B. Never gets front seat in the plot department.
He makes some good points... but did he literally not play HR? His point about not understanding why augs would be in ghettos makes no sense. Most augs were actually lower class people forced to be 'upgraded' by their employers who, surprise surprise, wasted tons of their money on drugs to make their bodies not fall apart.

yeah, the helicopter pilot gives his background story(that proves this point) and everything in the world says "alot of people were augged for construction". Hell even the fucking opening has tons of dead augged construction workers.
IIRC there was an ebook in Human Revolution talking about how the US Supreme Court required employers to pay for workers augments so they could keep up with similarly augmented workers. TYM made a killing off selling low-price augs while Versalife made bank on neuropozyne.
Coincidentally both companies are fronts for the Illuminati.

Also 11:10 talking about how augs can't be oppressed because they can blow people up with the flip of a switch; not every aug was implemented with state of the art military grade augmentations. Jensen is loaded out with stuff that not even Belltowers elite got. Hell he had superior hardware than the Tyrants, who were bankrolled directly by the Illuminati. Most augs just have robot arms and legs which can definitely do some damage (see the Incident) but when humans outnumber you exponentially and your augs can't do anything about gunshots it's very possible to become oppressed.
The story wasn't that great and he is right about the beginning (which is set up by a book actually) and the ending (clear sequel indications) but a lot of background elements he just missed.

Didnt they release a novel alongside MD that explains alaska?

I don't think most people would disagree with me when I say that leaving story intro/setup context to a tie-in novel is a really dumb idea if the game itself skips over what happened yet expects you to be in the know.
I don't think the logic makes too little sense in the story, the problem is the story tells without showing. Like there's a lot of environmental storytelling but you still can't get around the fact that Adam Jensen is basically emo superman, it's like saying "hey everyone is super horrible to augs who are super oppressed... except you, you're an aug but you're basically one step down from being a god".

I think what he was trying to say was he didn't feel particularly oppressed, because Jensen is murder incarnate. Like there's scenes where he's discriminated against, but I mean how can you really be horribly affected by it when you're a cool badass? Just some bigots being afraid of you, you're way cooler than they'll ever be.

Jensen is the exception not the rule though. At one point a cop is giving you constant shit while you are giving him your papers. He takes one look at them and immediately changed his tone to panic as he's giving you your papers back. The very first cop you get checked by outside the train station comments how she's never seen someone with such high grade military augs commenting that Jensen is some sort of super badass.
