This is THE Psytrance megathread.
Psychedelic trance or psytrance is a form of electronic music characterized by hypnotic arrangements of synthetic rhythms and mesmerizing melodies. It first broke out into the mainstream in 1995 in the UK.
People often take drugs like LSD, while being at a Goa/psytrance concert.
LSD makes you hallucinate, and see colors. Some people even claim being able to SEE music.
Examples:

Depending on the style and approach of the individual producer, speeds vary between 140 and 150 BPM.
In ‘79 the beginnings of electro music could occasionally be heard in Goa in the form of tracks by Kraftwerk:

But it wasn’t until ’83 that
dj Laurent, Fred Disko

Closely followed by Goa Gil:

began switching the Goa style over to electro which was now flooding out of Europe.
Israel also played a part in this development.
Until ’88 India’s borders were closed to Israelis. When the borders were opened, many Israelis travelled to India, looking for a cheap, fun place. When they returned over the borders to Israel, they took music and drugs back with them and in ’90 the first psychedelic ‘full moon gatherings’ on Nizanim’s beaches began.
In ’96 the music had changed so much from its Goa beginnings that the term Goa trance no longer seemed suitable and the new term of psychedelic trance, or psytrance for short, was coined to refer to this new style of music.
Goa trance was stripped away and a darker and more repetitive from of music concentrated on rhythm and groove appeared.
In ’02 however melodies became popular again, heralding the beginning of full-on psytrance.
Full on or melodic psytrance (also referred to as morning trance, club psytrance and Isra-trance) is a style of trance music, a form of psychedelic trance that originated in Israel during the late 90's.
Melodic psytrance draws its main influences from more radio-friendly genres such as uplifting trance (Nitzhonot and vocal trance) and electro house, futuristic melodies, occasional electric guitar performances and usage of vocals.
The expression “full on” is taken from the first out of a seven compilation albums series, and the first album ever to be released under Hom-mega Productions in 1998, titled "Full On"
Examples of Psytrance:
Mutant Star - Forest Keeper

I've made a psy / goa megathread of sorts before and no one replied lol.
anyway. :) psytrance is indeed awesome thought I don't think the drug part is needed in this thread as it will jsut spark debate and give people the (slightly) wrong impression about psytrance. Not that acid is bad ;)
I'm from Australia so I like a lot of the Aussie Psy artists... Tetrameth, Sensient, Pondscum etc... but I do love all types of psytrance from all over the world.. still, come to Australia to a psychedelic trance bush party(doofs), they're great :)
Here's Merkaba crankin some of his prog at the last doof.

I think you'll find that aussie psytrance has a more dirty, earthy feel and less cheesy as such than a lot if internationals... that's just my opinion though. All psy is good!

It's true, though, so i'm not gonna delete the drug part.
Also, Merkaba sounds very good :O
haha it is true I guess
yeah and he's only a local. He takes so many mushrooms haha. but yeah usually the aussie artists make the parties go off way harder than the internationals do.
If you like merkaba (he's really proggy psy), then look up some of these artists, (bigger names than Merkaba but I still think Merkaba is better than some of these lol)
- Tetrameth
- Sensient
- Sun Control Species
- Shadow FX
Actually these artist can be found on the album "Bush Food" which is like a psygressive mix of aussie and some internationals I think. You can probably download it (it may bea free release) or maybe not lol.. just have a look.
And if you want to hear some great aussie dark psy, be sure to check out Pondscum and others similar to him. A great album is Left Speaker Dancer.
i like it without drugs. ehh am i high on life? :/
Man I love the stuff with or without drugs.
It's the music itself, the emotions it brings out.
lol VA isn't an artist. It's just what they put when an album is a compilation... means various artists.
Nice sound.

trust me.. they get dark
I just love psytrance, my favourite song is astral projection - people can fly.
Yeah that is a pretty epic song. Heard it so many times though haha.
You should start branching out some more. Even though psytrance itself isn't a very mainstream genre, there is a "mainstream" movement as such... in a way - Infected Mushroom probably being one of the most noticeable of "psy" producers.

and one of the most overrated groups too
yeah...
Is taking shrooms okay as LSD substitute?
Yahel is pretty good.
Is taking shrooms okay as LSD substitute?
Shrooms are the Goa trance drug. LSD is the Psytrance drug.
Don't know why but I've always seen it that way.
Completley irrelevent since the only difference between psy and goa is whether the samples are from eastern folk songs or from 70's sci fi.
I like Void. Especially Never Again from them and Dead Man Walking.
I LOVE Full on, especially morning full on!
It's just the right energy for me if you could say so, as drum n' bass is too instrumental if you know what I mean.
Anyone else likes: Sesto Sento, Vibe Tribe, Pop Stream, Beat Hackers, The Freak Show, Ital, Indra, Electro Sun, Mekkanikka, Menog & so on.. :D?
