Earlier this year the communist country, which has become a little more open to the outside world since the death of Kim Jong Il, allowed foreign travellers to bring cell phones in the country for the first time. Now Koryolink, a Korean and Egyptian joint venture company, has launched the nation's first 3G network on which gives foreigners access to the internet through their smartphones. It didn't take long for the first tweet from Pyongyang to make its way around the twittersphere.
Jean H. Next thing you know NK is gonna be one of the largest users of Snapchat
Allows 3G, doesn't allows food Nice!
Now for the influx of tweets asking for someone to send help.
Wow we can't even use Instagram in Canada over mobile data networks because of the caps
too bad the citizens of north korea have no use for this they have no food to take pictures of
Now for the influx of tweets asking for someone to send help.
This is for foreigners only, and I'm not that sure if they would be allowed to tweet anything they like.
3G? Those poor people

Wat
Ironically enough, even the NK people know not to use the instagram rape filters
Probably their way of monitoring outgoing communications from visitors.
Probably their way of monitoring outgoing communications from visitors.
Well they will have fun looking through filter raped photographs and silly twitter comments.
I think there should just be a north korean section of the forum due to the large influx of north Korean threads we are getting.
Wow, that's really sad that the NK people aren't even allowed to use it. And the picture of the state sanctioned haircuts for people really struck me for some reason. It's hard to believe a place where even your hair is controlled by the government. Really makes you thankful for what you have.
North Koreans are not allowed to use the network. It is only to be used by visitors who register their devices with the Korea Communications Centre. It's unknown how restricted the digital lines of communications are, but there are no reports of censorship yet.
Of course there'll be no censorship if its people from other countries in the state
Getting beaten!! #YOLO #LOL #Gulag
Well, your ration of maggot-riddden rice looks way better after applying one of those filters, that's for sure.
Well that gives me a reason to join another cancerous social site, I'm really interested in what they might upload.
I expected it to look like the way 1984 was described, it actually looks quite a bit better. Still gotta suck to live there.
I expected it to look like the way 1984 was described, it actually looks quite a bit better. Still gotta suck to live there.
As the saying goes, looks can be decieving, especially with NK where pretty much anywhere outsiders are allowed to see are set up to look good. Basically, if you go on a tour of NK or see any state approved photos, you may as well be looking at a movie set.
Another photo: With the filters and all, this looks like a blast from the past. Look at the way all men are dressed and how the women stand out in the public with long, colorful dresses. Also, no ads in the venue.
