Well,Shit this is a affordable 3d printer I can actually afford
I smell some plastic .22's in the near future :D
Looks decent for the price, although if you have even minimal mechanical knowledge you could easily build a much bigger one for about the same price.
but I really love seeing these and they definitely don't need my good words to be successful lol

28 days to go. Jesus.
I think this is going to be the new record holder for most funded project.
I want one

Man it's like this with every 3D printer project practically. There's always a huge waiting list for these.
Tempted to buy one of these.
I want it.

I think it's safe to say this was a successful kickstarter campaign

I'd like to imagine the guy thinking up stretch goals just saw those numbers and gave up.

marginally successful
it was pretty touch and go for a while.

Yeah dude, I was pretty concerned it wouldn't get funded after the first 20 seconds. Was pretty intense.
If I had $300 to drop I'd totally get this, but no money so shot out of luck :(
I need to know at what complexity it can print. I want to make an action figure of myself.
Bit of a small printing area
Just a thing to mention like I said in another thread is that as much as it is tempting to buy if you order one of these the wait time is anywhere from August 2014 to March 2015 so you could end up waiting nearly a year for your product and by then something else the same or better or cheaper could have come out.
This seems like one of those markets that is ever evolving and quick to have new competitors I don't think it is wise to buy something like this when you have a potential waiting time of nearly a year the chances are something else better and reasonably priced will have come out by then.
I went to a convention this time last year and there was loads of companies there trying to sell their 3D printers that was basically the same thing but for £1300 and just a year later here is the same thing for FAR less. If you are seriously thinking about purchasing one of these really take into consideration the wait time.
Also searching for DIY 3d printer kits yields results for 299 too. no indication of quality though
I'd print myself one of these with it: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1383838
and then a year later after its funded its bought by facebook
Of course it got funded quickly, it's a consumer-ready product for the price of a cheap Prusa, kickstarter backers eat that shit up
I'd love to see 3D printers reach a quarter of the popularity regular printers have.

Successful fundraising campaign. Whether or not they can actually deliver remains to be seen.

I don't see why not. Sure, the price point is extremely low for the precision of 3D printer, but it looks to be a very much mass-producable design with a small printing surface, they're working on the mass-production hijinks like the injection molding of the frame and whatnot. It's a small, simple little thing useful for printing out models, figures, and rapid prototyping tiny parts / enclosures that won't be under any mechanical stress.
I'll personally wait for something with a bit larger printing surface myself, but this will be one of the first truly mass-produced 3D printers.
They certainly have a nice looking team and plan.

Optimistically promising the lowest price to date for a 3D printer when they're still in the design process is something that should be taken with a massive grain of salt. Companies have made and continue to make overly optimistic promises without ultimately being able to deliver, so why would anyone just assume that the fact that they got funded means they can meet all their goals? I'll believe it when I see it.
This is pretty impressive; I may even back it.

Because people have made 3D printers for cheaper by themselves and this design, being already pretty much finalized, lends itself to mass production far better than pretty much anything else that has come on to the market.

Ahh, I can hear Games Workshops terrified high pitched scream from here..
So what exactly does the average person do with a 3D printer? Print trinkets and shit until the novelty wears off, then regret the purchase?
I would create shit loads of Action Figures.
