How about you don't make a such big deal about it. If he enjoys making minecraft videos, let him. Who are you to tell him to stop because you don't like them? If you think these videos are getting in the way of your friendship, chances are you're the problem, not him or those videos.
The first thing I notice is how he speaks. This kid is so uncharismatic, so bland, that I can't even watch more than a minute of it. He also needs to turn his mic gain up, or at least boost the sound when editing. And he needs something that isn't half-baked free recording software.

I don't really want him to stop doing it. It's his business to upload whatever he wants on Youtube. But judging from the OP's description of him, he might need to deflate that ego, own up to his flaws, and try to improve. If he wants to be a commentator, he really needs to know how to, uh, have a personality that isn't flat. :v:

I can't talk to him anymore without him bringing his videos into it. He always finds a way to boast about them no matter what. He's not just becoming more distant from me. Almost everyone who is his friend is noticing a change in their relationships with him.
I don't want him to stop. I just want him to realize that they're not that good, so his ego will deflate.

Same thing happened to me a while back. Just let him do it and he'll realize that his videos aren't the greatest thing ever. Calm down a bit.
