The microchips will be coded with owners' details, and owners who do not comply could face fines of up to £500. Ministers hope the change in the law will help reunite owners with lost or stolen pets and relieve some of the burden on animal charities and local authorities.
Great idea, all dogs should be mircochiped, it doesn't effect the dog at all and lets it be identified even without a collar, preventing rare breeds from being stolen. also
In the past 12 months, more than 3,000 postal workers were attacked by out-of-control dogs,
:v:
Good, I am tired of stray dogs.
Plenty of comments on engadget to the effect of "soon they will do this for HUMANS :tinfoil:"
Plenty of comments on engadget to the effect of "soon they will do this for HUMANS :tinfoil:"
Pfffft, how stupid is that? Don't they know the government already does that through vaccinations, honestly... :v:
Good luck enforcing it.
Good luck enforcing it.
Oh you are going to take this pet from this animal shelter? Wait, write your name on this and this and yeah, let's get it microchipped. wait what? Sounds fucking obvious to me, my cat isn't microchipped though, but if it is smart enough to know where he lives. If I am ever going to get a new dog/cat, I am gonna chip it. My cat is currently 11 years old anyways :v:

What if someone has a bitch that gets pregnant and they give the pups away to their family? It'd be a waste of money having some kind of roving band of people scanning dogs.
owners who do not comply could face fines of up to £500.
Good luck finding the owner of an unchipped animal. [editline]hey[/editline] Nobody will step forward unless they are able to pay the fine.
Good luck finding the owner of an unchipped animal.
If he finds the dog by himself, yeah, jackshit happens. But if it is captured and put into the animal shelter, the owner will come to the shelter by himself to get his dog back. First thing, he gets the fine, second thing, he knows what the chip is useful for and will actually probably get it now. Just a less of a hassle when you lose your dog by accident.
Good luck enforcing it.
simple- just send inspectors to the dog factories to make sure all the hardware is installed during assemlby
dog factories
:(
I wonder which MP is connected to the chip suppliers and has a vested financial interest in this. I've read too much Private Eye and the like to believe that this shit is purely altruistically based and for the good of the land. The self-serving cunts must be getting a slice of the pie somewhere. Despite the inevitable vested interest shit I said above, this could still be a good thing in terms of lowering the numbers of strays/ensuring they can be given the appropriate treatment assuming the microchip at some point references a medical record database of some sort. I work with RFID but not in the pet chipping sector so don't know specifics on that particular fork of the technology.
It's a smart thing to do. Way too many animals have gone lost and stayed lost.
No doubt people will bitch about that it hurts the dogs or some shit like that
Good luck finding the owner of an unchipped animal.
Well according to the OP that happens 48,800 times a year
Plenty of comments on engadget to the effect of "soon they will do this for HUMANS :tinfoil:"
I know a lot of people who think this is biblical prophecy and that this would be equivalent to getting "666" tattooed on their bodies.
Good, I found a little dog wandering in the road the other week. He had a collar but not tag, so I took him to the rescue place to be scanned for a microchip and he didn't have one. They told me I either had to keep him (which I couldn't as I already have 2) or give him to the dog warden who would put him down. Luckily his owners rang the rescue place a few hours later looking for him, he was 16 and had never been microchipped.
I agree with the idea, but I think the fine is too high.
that's the idea disguise revenue generation exercise as altruistic act
No doubt people will bitch about that it hurts the dogs or some shit like that
We chipped our dog and she didn't even realize anything happened, they stick it up in that loose skin on the back of her neck and she just kept looking around with that stupid happy look they always have :v:
My dog hunched over a little like she was expecting to get carried around or something.
My dog has had a chip for like 6 years Its just a little rice grain sized thing that they put under the skin at the back of the neck. I don't think it will do much use for my dog anymore since it has like drifted down to the right and below the shoulder :v:
Holy shit. I suggested this idea to my school teachers when I was in elementary school, and they laughed it away.
Our dog is chipped as well, it's a simple procedure and almost free of pain.. sure the pet might sequel for a second out of shock but it's for its own good. There's NO problems or issues with this, good move England.
The only issue I can see about this is that there's different companies making chips/readers and not all readers are universal.
Yes, this definitely should help meat quality control.
The only issue I can see about this is that there's different companies making chips/readers and not all readers are universal.
indeed, ideally they should be based on an open standard I'm guessing some ministers have their fingers in some pies involving proprietary chipping technologies
