Brief Description
This 1995 movie essentially covers (in a more digestable and sometimes slightly boring) everything that happened to the Apollo 13 crew starting from July 20th, 1969 , through the day of the accident on April 13th, 1970 and right until splashdown a few days later. You get to see what happened from the perspective of the astronauts as well as the ground crew and families.
In 2002 the movie was re-released in theaters, this time specifically for the IMAX crowd.
Cool Stuff :eng101:
-The film used NASA's Vomit Comet for the filming of the zero gravity scenes.
-The Mission Control room was initially offered by NASA for use for the movie but instead, Universal rebuilt the room from scratch. A former employee at NASA visited the set once and thought he was still at NASA as the set was a perfect replica.
-The movie was criticized for the textbook ending [sp]where everyone survives and lives happily ever after[/sp] but of course if this was not the case, the movie would be fictional.
-If you have not caught on already, the film has been very well praised for it's technical and historical accuracy which only deviated a few times for dramatic effect.
Personally I think it's a good Geek Flick.
