Sega is believed to be winning an auction for THQ subsidiary Relic Entertainment.

THQ’s assets are being auctioned off today, but the process is closed to the public and most press. At present our only source of information is unconfirmed reports from NeoGAF users, but several industry insiders have expressed their belief in these reports.

Sega Sammy is believed to be the highest bidder for Warhammer 40,000 and Company of Heroes developer Relic Entertainment. It’s a good fit; Sega is home to Total War developer The Creative Assembly, one of its most successful teams.

Reports also suggest Dead Island publisher Koch Media is leading bids for Saints Row and Red Faction developer Volition Inc.
Both companies are reasonably flush in the pocket; they may not bring in as much revenue as larger publishers, but have fewer debts and are better positioned to summon cash reserves at short notice.
Don’t get too excited until we have a verified source, obviously. No word on Darksiders developer Vigil yet.
Sega, don't you ruin them.
DON'T YOU RUIN THEM!

uh no
can you imagine relic combining with Creative assembly to make a 40k total war?

sega's record for me isn't really awesome.
Relic is easily my favourite game company and a place I have resumes at
that however, would be very cool.
No matter what Sonic infused spin offs could come from this it would still be better then EA getting them

That's one reason to get the new Sega All-Stars racing game.

I don't think 40k total war would work because all the guns and shit.
Although they're already supposed to be making a Warhammer Total war game.

Dude, have you played the Total War games lately? They've been releasing critically acclaimed success after critically claimed success.
Sega even said themselves that Creative Assembly has been regularly exceeding projected sales figures at every turn, and if you are read into the industry you'll see just how overly optimistic those projections typically are.
The only thing I can think of to knock Sega for is the Sonic franchise, but that thing has been a running joke for god knows how long to many people.

To be fair, Fall of the Samurai was extremely fun and I was a huge fan of Empire: Total War albeit with a few mods installed on top of it.
Ranged combat can be done correctly in Total War games, plus with 40K ranged combat is only half of the game both in lore and in tabletop. There is more than enough room to mix up the game play with both unique ranged and melee units.
So does this mean we get a new Dawn of War with a bunch of Commander Boreale recolors?
Since clearly he was the main protagonist of the DoW series.

Someone tell me, once the auction is over will THQ be no more?

Personally I hope they don't rise from the dead, they screwed their customers for every penny in the final stretch before they died with shenanigans like fuck tons of dumb SR3 DLC's with abysmal and lacking content, putting a £40 price tag (and pre-order bonuses) on COH and did various other things I can't be asked to name.
Sure, you've got the Humble Bundle, but judging by their practices I bet it was either a PR stunt so people would weep at their passing and donate or they just wanted to suddenly rake in a load of money from the donations. They made EA look slightly more innocent than they are.

the SR3 DLC was pretty good though
Total War Battles
EU3 Diplomacy
W40K Setting
the SR3 DLC was pretty good though
"Hey guys, how can we make a quick profit?"
"I know! lets reskin a few existing outfits and vehicles, take cheats and clothing items that were already in the game yet unwearable, and sell them in £2 packs!"
As long as EA doesn't get their dirty claws on these franchises, I'm sure we will be just fine.
Homeworld

Hold on hold on hold on.
We found someone who liked the fucking millions of costume DLC for SR3 (Which was all in the game already)

On one hand it's amazing, but on the other hand things can ALWAYS go wrong, not to mention Sega's been going a bit loopy recently; something to do with Shining Force and Youtube copyright claims.
That being said a Total War-styled Warhammer 40K game would be pretty close to emulating the tabletop version, since Warhammer 40,000 is based around large battles from what I've heard. However Sonic shouldn't be in Power Armour, but Sonic Team doesn't have anything to do with Warhammer anyway.

It doesn't matter who publishes the game, the effects on the final result will be insignificant or non-existent.
If JK Rowling had switched publishers from Bloomsbury to Harper-Collins after the third Harry Potter book, do you think the writing would change? Do you think the publisher might say 'Okay, we like this, but we need you to release it in micro-installments so we can charge more, and also more sex and violence please'?
Of course not. A publisher might have requirements or make changes for a new developer (with games) or writer (with books), but once a success or two is released they stay hands-off. Any well-known author could write for any publisher and the publisher wouldn't dictate changes. The same goes for games companies.
I can't understand all this hate for EA/Sega/Bethesda as a publisher. They don't fuck with proven companies. Relic is absolutely proven.
Edit: The worst they could do is have Relic release a few titles, then shut them down. That's not Sega's track record and Relic's done well with its recent RTSes.

The Pc Version of the racer has a shogun from the total war series.
so it wouldn't be too farfetched to see what happens when sega owns the franchise.
(Valkyria Chronicles-gameplay combined with warhammer anyone?)
Totally hoping they don't ruin relic. Their RTSes are top of the line.

Valkyria combined real-time strategy with turn-based, didn't it? It sounds cool, but I dunno if that kinda thing would work with 40K; it'd probably work well for a game like XCOM, but I dunno if 40K would gel well with a Valkyria Chronicles style of battle system.

You and that other guy do realize they had 3 full story based DLCs or don't you give a shit? I guess you have to argue with shitty points when that's your argument

So being owned by a company gives the owned company complete autonomy?
Then why are so many studios that ea and activist on bought dead
Sonic VS The Emprah at the olympic games.
I'd buy it :V
As long as Company of Heroes 2 happens.
That's my only demand.
PLEASE, I've already ordered a Pilotka off of Ebay! D:
