Wow. really interesting article. There's a video interview of the escapee as well. Worth checking out.
This just in. Most prison camps are 'Like the Holocaust'
Lies, everyone knows that prison camps in countries that can't even feed their own citizens are modern utopias.
Best Korea builds the Best Prison Camps
Living in NK is like the Holocaust.
I know a few people will hate my mention of this, but I would definitely go suggest reading the AMA in Reddit with the North Korean defector who answers a lot of questions for people.
Anyone wanting to learn more about what it's like, I highly recommend Escape from Camp 14: One man's remarkable odyssey from North Korea to the West
really insightful book and gives an interesting look at how the human instincts can be affected so drastically by being born and raised in an environment like it
Speaking of North Korea and Camps you guys outta check this documentary Vice did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awQDLoOnkdI

Hate you?
Only retards on the reddit hatewagon will hate you for saying something like this.

FP doesn't hate Reddit AMA's generally.
Very interesting article and no doubt to those that escaped are traumatized by all the horrors that have happen to them.
Feel sorry for anyone living in North Korea.

Reddit has this weird ongoing boner for defending North Korea and making it out to be a perfectly fine place, so grain of salt everyone.
NK hires people to spread propaganda online and if there's one community that'll latch onto it, it's Reddit.

could you link it?
What the fuck Zeke
you are literally making shit up to make reddit look bad.
I've seen every AMA and I see the exact opposite
YOU are fucking retarded and probably think /r/pyongyang isn't a satire
I thought he defended reddit.

I believe this is it.

In a response to someone talking about Reddit, yes
What should I have talked about, caesar salad dressing recipes?
Also, this was posted in the AMA. It's the testimony of an ex-PRNK political prisoner and it's also a pretty interesting read.
I got this off of TV Tropes on "Hellhole Prison"
North Korea's kwan-li-so system of labour camps and political prisons deserves a mention of its own. North Korean defectors have reported witnessing forced abortions, infanticide, several instances of rape, public executions, and testing of biological weapons on prisoners.
It's sick as fuck to think of and almost reason enough for america to invade and free these 100,000's of people being tortured and killed everyoday :(
All the time's I've jokingly called North Korea the Best Korea, which it is in some way because they have this funny image (at least on FP, fucking FP!), but it's rly not funny anymore. And this shit has probably been going on for a while too.

If any of that shit where some prisoner said they would happily catch a man dying then take the corpse to the guards for another bowl of food is true, then holy shit I can't even imagine just living like that. Not to think the guy "ratted" on his fucking family who were then executed.... I wonder if I even should care for what crime initially.

I think that's common nature. As fucked up as the environment is, you can't help it but keep breathing and experiencing it, and yes it affects you, unless you break free of the current environment and move to another before it's too late.
Also might give that book a read, I read one good book about the siege of leningrad and it was bad. Sometimes I wonder why do people even want to know about starvation, suffering and drudgery so much? To me I guess it's the people's strength that I want to hear about.
I have seen and read about some fucked up shit, but this is by far the most fucked up shit I have read in my entire life. Very disturbing.

Ohh. personally I'd like to hear that anyway.
I got this off of TV Tropes on "Hellhole Prison"
I find it kind of weird and vaguely disturbing when people on TV Tropes use the site's lingo to describe very real accounts of horrific torture and murder

These aren't about the camps but if you want a good understanding on the mentality then you go here.
NK is scary, and so surreal but it's so fascinating.

I don't know where you're getting this load of crock from but in all my time on reddit I have never once seen anyone actually attempt to defend North Korea. Unless, of course, you're referring to /r/pyongyang, which is a total joke.
Or, alternatively, you are somehow implying there is a reddit hivemind.
Makes me wonder, if at all, if there are people who were sent there on solid, real allegations. It's like all we ever hear about is people who get sent to these camps on totally false charges and shit.
