Looks pretty creepy. I enjoyed the classics, hopefully it lives up to being an Evil Dead film.
So Bruce Campbell is a girl and the entire cast has been replaced with Abercrombie models.
I remember another remake that replaced fun-to-watch actors with supermodels and half the team to girls.
The Thing 2011.

The Thing 2011 was a prequel, not a remake, though.

What the fuck does Bruce Willis have to do with Evil Dead?
[editline]16th October 2012[/editline]
And the cast of the original was already a bunch of teenagers, they're not changing anything.
Fede Alvarez: We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.
There’s a moment where a girl goes through her arm with a kitchen knife — spoiler alert. And we knew since day one the camera would start wide, she goes for the knife, you see her arm, she starts going for it. And you think they’re going to cut away at any moment, but we don’t. She just goes for it and screams and the arm breaks and falls. So we really pushed the boundaries there, trying to create those illusions… It has a particularly bloody ending. The last scene is just…I want it to be the bloodiest scene, ever. And I think it is.
Say what you will about the cast change and the theme from horror comedy to essentially just plain horror, but both Sam Raimi, his brother, and Bruce Campbell are working on this in some capacity.
Here it is

TREE RAPE AHOY
Yeah lick that fucking knife, bitch
So wait is Ash now Ashley? Or is the hippy looking dude? Or the guy we only see for a few brief seconds wearing a blue shirt and with the chainsaw?

[editline]16th October 2012[/editline]
still looks good though
Holy shit, my trousers are full.
Wonder if they'll be able to sneak in a bruce campbell cameo?
My favorite movie of all time. Remade(again lol). I'm in love.

He says in the interview that there won't be any cameos or references to the last film because it wouldn't fit the mood
[editline]16th October 2012[/editline]
or maybe he just meant humorous cameos idk
That trailer did nothing to avert my fear that it will be just another generic "Young adults attacked by monsters" horror movie.
That trailer did nothing to avert my fear that it will be just another generic "Young adults attacked by monsters" horror movie.
you know what, even if it ends up being this i want to see it just for the practical special effects
[editline]17th October 2012[/editline]
that fucking tounge scene ughhhhhh, made me cringe irl

Well wasn't the premise of the first movie just that? We've skimmed the surface with a basic red band trailer you aren't going to find out much more for a while now.

Its one of the reasons I love Pan's Labyrinth.

Ash isn't a character in this movie, the only thing that carries over from the other films is some of the story and the location.

-snip- Rereading that post made it make less and less sense the more i read it.
I read some things about this, and as it turns out, this is actually the way it was meant to be, it wasn't ever meant to be funny, just the sequels fed off of this unintended humor, and further solidified the original as a movie of it's own kind.
Evil Dead 2 was a remake of the first movie, so if they wanted it to be like the movie coming out now why would've they have made two movies after the first one with a different feel.
I wouldn't say slapstick is unintended humor, seems more like they just tested grounds and played around a little.
Edit:
Nevermind, i guess.
So wait is Ash now Ashley? Or is the hippy looking dude? Or the guy we only see for a few brief seconds wearing a blue shirt and with the chainsaw?
Ash appears as a ghost, according to some reports.
Ash appears as a ghost, according to some reports.
I wouldn't believe anything like that anymore. Neither Campbell nor Raimi were slated to be tied to this in any way shape or form as far as reports kept saying and now they're writing/producing.
This just feels like a really bad reboot of another beloved series that didn't need to be touched again. Evil Dead was a brilliant trilogy that consistently delivered over each movie, adding something new and taking the story in unusual directions every time. This just feels like more bland Hollywood shlock.

Except that it's pretty much being made by the people behind the original movies?

but its produced by Bruce Campbell. a ton of the special effects made me cringe, the first time in a long time for a movie based around horror.
