The battle against global warming has received a transformational boost after China, the world's biggest producer of carbon dioxide, proposed to set a cap on its greenhouse gas emissions for the first time.Under the proposal China, which is responsible for a quarter of the world's carbon emissions, would put a ceiling on greenhouse gas emissions from 2016, in a bid to curb what most scientists agree is the main cause of climate change. It marks a dramatic change in China's approach to climate change that experts say will make countries around the world more likely to agree to stringent cuts to their carbon emissions in a co-ordinated effort to tackle global warming. “This is very exciting news,” said Lord Stern, chair of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change at the London School of Economics. “Such an important move should encourage all countries, and particularly the other large emitters such as the United States, to take stronger action on climate change. And it improves the prospects for a strong international treaty being agreed at the United Nations climate change summit in 2015,” added Lord Stern, who, in his 2006 report for the UK government on the financial implications of climate change, produced what many regard as the world's single most influential political document on the subject.
http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/china-agrees-to-impose-carbon-targets-by-2016-8626101.html It's good that China is slowly making headway in ecological reforms.

Wern't they to clean up their act for the 2008 games? Yeah, they did but take a guess what happened AFTER the games.
You can see China's pollution from space, it's ridiculous how their selfish actions alone are detrimental to everyone else's environment.
It's a shame that China turned into a machine that can't be stopped.
Now their environmental standards call for only a minimum of two dead birds per smoke stack and lung-tar capacity of five milliliters maximum for urban residents.

China is changing. It's not longer going to be that "factory which pumps out shitty things with abysmally low wages and conditions for workers. Their lives aren't as good as westerners ones, but the fact remains that life in China is improving and they are actually taking serious steps to curb environmental problems. Saying "oh lol China it's shit" is starting to get out of date.
Too bad that China's growth is starting to really slow down
How do you mean "really slow down"? I give them ten years to improve their environmental condition of their country. At the end of ten years and they still polluting the air and seas, I say they are hopeless.

I can't see how anyone could enjoy living in China with their environment the way it is. Imagine your a rich buisnessman there, knowing you could really enjoy life alot more with some actual fresh air and clear sky. I can't remember the last time I saw an image of China without the sky covered in that gray shit, it all seems a bit depressing.
