Nothing could possibly go wrong here!

Our route over Ukraine is shut down? Better go over Syria
:v:
What will they think up next?

Military airspace.
It shows that them avoiding Ukraine is just a PR/symbolic thing for investors and potential passengers with no genuine regard for the safety of the crew and passengers.

Chechnya airspace
Chechnya airspace
Probably safer than Ukraine at the moment for flying. I doubt they (the rebels) have any vehicles other than pickups and a few APCs.

Space.
This isn't actually a big deal at all. A lot of airlines fly over active warzones because no one really expects to be shot down. Furthermore, airline fuel is really fucking expensive, and Malaysian Airlines are already bleeding money.
They may as well just rig a bomb on the plane and blow it up randomly.
Wasn't that the rationalisation for flying over Ukraine in the first place?
Well, all was nice and good until the rebels got their hands onto a Buk.
Remember that these things are REALLY rare as far as terrorists and rebels are concerned, they are pretty damn expensive even for legitimate buyers as the rockets are massive and quite advanced in technology. Very rarely somebody just happens to capture them, and even then, the operation isn't all that trivial.

So not only are you jumping to the conclusion that it was the rebels, you also make the implication that the system used was supplied by the Russians because "Very rarely somebody just happens to capture them".
What happened was a tragedy but the way people are using it to push their agenda's is shocking, it shows a total lack of consideration for the people involved. Regardless of who actually did this much worse things have been done by a number of different countries, not all by accident.
You don't see the world boycotting america because they killed 1000s of Iraqis, sometimes 100s at a time. A smart bomb lands in a civilian bunker smashing, suffocating and boiling over 400 people (children included) inside and nobody gives a fuck because they're middle eastern.
This is only getting so much political attention because people have finally found something to rally against Putin with.
It's become a political tool/weapon rather than a tragedy.
And the media coverage, poking through remains, publishing photos before confirmation, grief porn and schadenfreude. They are akin to vultures flocking in to profit from what should be a strict lesson to everybody involved.

Uh, I am not implying it was supplied by the Russians.
If you ask me for what I believe, I think the most probable possibility is that it was an Ukrainian Buk they had stored somewhere and the rebels got their hands onto it, wanted to shoot down Ukrainian military planes, but as they lacked the command vehicle, the weapon was operating in the simplified "launcher only" mode which lacks target recognition, and they had no idea they are shooting down a civilian plane.
It wasn't a malicious intent to kill hundreds of civilians, it was somebody getting trigger happy with extremely potent weapon and not realizing the possible consequences.
That's what I personally believe.

I too believe this, but it is irresponsible for the world to jump to conclusions without sufficient evidence. They will further sanction Russia, which despite them saying they are targetting individuals, will have a negative effect on everyone there through inflation and loss of jobs. Alienating an entire country is a really bad idea.
They're in it for the insurance money at this stage..

I believe this as well. Yesterday's Russian Ministry of Defense briefing (yes-yes, I know, but that particular thing was quite objective and only relied on facts and evidence, with no fingers pointed) revealed that Rostov airport's radars that tracked the Boeing registered another signal that was coming roughly from the same area and altitude, thought to be Ukrainian military plane (which is logical, no one else could've happened to be there). Right until the point of Boeing's crash, this signal was invisible, and that's for long-range stationary radar equipment. It would make a lot of sense if rebels, with their lacking radio-locating equipment, basically didn't know about Malaysian plane, but tried to shoot down Ukrainian jet "hiding" near it.
That would also explain why everyone started lying to distance themselves from the event: Ukrainian side claiming absence of Buk M1 ammunition and that there was no military aircraft present in the area, and rebels with their quite implausible explanations.

"no one really expects to be shot down"
Well seeing that it just happened maybe we should start expecting it?
Is all this just a rather big ploy to lower stock prices of Malaysian airlines?

At least none of our opinions here are going to have any impact in the real world. The problem is we're a reflexion of how people with actual influence might think or act.
I might be wrong but at least I know I'm harmless.
Nazi Germany airspace.
Wait, that must be where Flight 370 went, they took a portal back in time! Definitely sticking with Malaysian Airlines, who wants to be 70 minutes late reaching a destination when you can be 70 years early!
