So I wrote this today: I want to improve my writing a whole lot, so far most of my work has been based around finding cool sounding things on a guitar and building a song around it. I kind of want to have it so I can plan a general structure ahead and fill that in with cool sounding things instead. Does that make sense? I dunno. Maybe not. Anyway, I'd appreciate some feedback, and thanks for listening! Also, my first post on Facepunch, woo!
Welcome to Facepunch, I suppose. Just so you know, this section is pretty much a ghost town, so don't be disappointed if your threads dont get many posts. Anyways, I don't see whats bad with finding cool sounding things and building songs around them. I think songs are better when they don't have a certain structure. I myself just write songs by making some kind of intro and going stream of consiousness from that point onward. Now, to talk about your song, the guitar melody that plays throughout the whole thing is incredibly repetitive, especially considering that there's a single note that plays through the whole note, so you should probably start by making melodies that change more. I like the piano melodies a lot though, even though those are just a few repeating a couple of times as well. So your main problem (in my opinion) is repetivity. Start changing the song more, add twists, new instruments or change the whole mood of the song at some points. Experimenting and playing around with weird note combinations is a very good thing in music. Other than that, its an ok song. You definitely have a lot of room for improvement, but if you keep at it, I can definitely see you becoming something more.
Sweet, thanks for listening and replying! I usually have the repetivity problem, I think it's part me not finding anything new that fits and part me playing it safe, sticking to simple things. So yeah, I'll have another look at this some time. More changing melodies. Got it! Thanks again!
Would fit into a visual novel or something if it was imported to a daw and mastered, great job!
Some of the piano notes sound off, you should probably stay in the higher end of an octave for it, to blend with your guitar.
