Me and my band (well just the three of us, we used midi drums) recorded a cover of mothership by enter shikari. This isn't a live recording we multi track recorded using Logic 9. The vocals are recorded by me and are quite poor, including the auto tune for i can not sing we just wanted it so it dident sound bare before we could find a singer. I played Synthesizer, recorded, mixed and performed vocals My friend Alex played guitar and my friend Tom played bass http://www.mediafire.com/?qw2tmmj2z1i If you could download and listen it would be very much appreciated, this is my first ever attempt at recording anything so constructive critism would be greatly appreciated, and yes I know some of it goes out of time with itself at certain points but it works its way back into time. Thank you
Really not a fan of how it's mixed and mastered, it all becomes way too muddled
Well apart from every instrument sounding awful due to mixing or bad electronic equipment on the electronicy bits, the playing wasn't that bad. I really think you shouldn't have had the auto tune on, it made it a lot worse, in shikari's demo of this song rou's singing really isnt' that good, especially his screams, but that's part of the charm of the song. The the autotune was just a complete failiure to be honest, it sounded like a dying robot cat. And the some of the growly parts should have been more shouty than screamy/growly. If you made the synths sound more like the actual song, mixed the intstruments a bit better, and sung normally (less growly, and no auto tune) then I think it would be excellent. A lot of people just accept that they can't sing but with practice and know-how, anyone can sing, the biggest barrier is confidence. Where are you from by the way? here's the original song for anyone who wants to compare (it's the demo version) View YouTUBE video http://youtube.com/watch?v=uKNk6VEawo4 Okay the video is weird I don't know why. also I was at this show :D Sorry I just really like Enter Shikari :)
I understand about the singing, our lead vocalist is coming round sometime in the next week to re record the entire vocal track, so more improvements will also be made then. The mixing does indeed need some work, the entire track was learnt, recorded and mixed in about 7 hours so I don't think it's bad considering. And yes I love enter shikari too, they are by far my favorite band. And I am from blackpool, north west of england :)
