Hey, does anyone know how I can diagnose why my rear speakers randomly stopped working? I tried to go to this store called Electronic Express because they sell car audio, but it's $50 for a diagnostic thing. The volume was on 5 out of 50. So it wasn't high at all, no reason they should have blown. My front speakers are working fine though. I've pulled out my headunit and made sure all the wires were tight, and even checked the fuses under the hood. When they went, I heard a little buzz thing and I turned it up a bit to see what that was, and I noticed no sound was coming from them. Now I have the mixer set to the front speakers so that I don't cause any more damage if that's even possible. But anyways, does anyone have any idea on what happened? It's a 2003 Lancer ES by the way.
it's terminal sorry.
actually the wires have probably got shorted out or disconnected somewhere. easiest way will be to run a wire straight from the back of the headunit speaker output to the rear speakers and i bet they'll work.
I can't actually find the wire going to the rear speaker. When looking from the trunk, no wires are hanging, and none are in the metal bit on the top of the trunk. I think they used Witchcraft or something and that corpse of a skunk my mom probably hit was the wicked witch of the slightly east.
Hmm just rewire them, easiest bet. should be able to find a pinout diagram for the headunit plug.
Both of the failing at the same time is kind of weird since they should have two separate + and + chords each. I'd assume something in your headunit responsible for amping the rear speakers went pop.

That is the closest I can find. The only difference between my Lancer and the 06 is Visually on the outside, Safety, and the headunit has less knobs and more buttons. You take it out all the same way, and all the wires are in the same place.
And Tu154m, if I get what you are saying. Would the headunit still play the front speakers if the amp went out?
What I saw on the front page was "Help with diagnosing my rear..."
I was disappointed
I saw the first bit of your post and instantly knew what it was going to say.
Just switch the wires (on the amp) from the front speakers to the back ones, see if it works.
How would I do that without screwing it up? I don't have a soldering iron, and my car doesn't have a standalone amp. Just one embedded into the factory headunit.
Oh I had thought they had plugs. You could always cut the wires, strip them and connect with caps.
This is the back of the headunit. The speakers plug into the white thing. The part that looks like S-Video is the Antennae, and the other two. I don't know what those are.

I had a similar problem, i think it might be your head unit, i have an 01 Sentra GXE and one day i was listening to the radio on normal volume and my head unit reset itself then i heard a pop, it ended up blowing my right speakers in the front and back, so i ended up getting aftermarket speakers and a new head unit, didn't even touch the wires, works fine now.

Is there way to test that it's the headunit? I don't want to go out and buy a new one only to find that it didn't work. I mean, I want a new one anyways for an auxiliary port, but no reason to waste money on that if it's not a necessity.
