At 2:50 the Antifa guy in the middle of the screen gets his red bandana and hood pulled off by the guy wearing an American flag cape. Take note of what happens to him when he tries to retreat with the others. :v:

Is it really that surprising? In the heat of any sort of chaos, without ways of identification those who are on one side can easily be hit by friendly fire. You remove your enemy's identification, you open them up to being hit just as much as you are.
Though what the hell are these guys doing charging another group of protestors? What do they hope to accomplish other than cause some sort of violence to occur?
As much as I dislike political violence, there is a part of me that lights up with joy seeing these sociology nerds scatter like roaches.

That other group of 'protestors' were picking fights, throwing fireworks, and generally being violent. This was a push back after dealing with that the whole day. The police were called off too for some reason.
Holy shit was that a manhole that guy threw like Captain America throwing a shield. The drumming in the background and the melee combat combined with basic projectiles makes this seem like some ancient battle.
I guess this is what happens when people are angry, dissatisfied and bored.
for anyone cheering them on:
These are white nationalists, neo nazis, the Oath Keepers (a radical antigovt group), and a writer for altright.com (who richard spencer writes for)
Note the hate speech is free speech, and antisemetic signs etc.
Oath Keepers are actually a militia group of currently standing and retired government officials. :v:

I don't find it surprising at all. I do find it funny though.
the group does no actual background checks on applicants
not surprised. anyone with actual government/military/police credentials dumb enough to join would get a straight ticket to losing their job.
I don't have any sympathy for people who go around stirring shit up, blocking traffic, throwing M80s into crowds, and hitting people in the head with bike locks
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oath_Keepers
Okay, and?
How about from their actual website:
Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of current and formerly serving military, police, and first responders, who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That oath, mandated by Article VI of the Constitution itself, is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and Oath Keepers declare that they will not obey unconstitutional orders, such as orders to disarm the American people, to conduct warrantless searches, or to detain Americans as “enemy combatants” in violation of their ancient right to jury trial. See the Oath Keepers Declaration of Orders We Will Not Obey for details.
Oath Keepers reaches out to both current serving and veterans to remind them of their oaths, to teach them more about the Constitution they swore to defend, and to inspire them to defend it. See below for details on how we do that. Oath Keepers also includes a membership program designated as “Associate Members”, which consists of patriotic citizens who have not served in uniform but who serve now by supporting this mission with their Associate Membership and volunteer activities. Oath Keepers welcomes our Associate Members and appreciates their support of our mission.
As far as I'm concerned the SPLC and ADL can go fuck themselves.
I think it just shows how not only mindless these fights can get, but the actual practical utility of Antifa uniforming themselves to prevent such embarrassment since they will attack anyone that looks "wrong".
But either way, heat of the moment fighting largely can account for this. Just happens that is all that antifa wants to do alot of the time and thus the uniformed mask and black clothes is a necessity in situations like these.

You messed that up. Social Work majors protest. Sociologists just sit back and write papers about protests.

Not a sociologist, but an equally benign teaching focus.

I am not going to post the video of the guy bashing someone with a bike lock (you can find it yourself), but yeah this guy didn't stay in his teaching role.

Friendly fire can and often is a real problem when its situations like these. When your eyes are scanning around at high speeds, misidentification is easy, although I can't say I don't feel a little satisfied seeing him get wrecked by FF.
It's absolutely moronic to be even out in the streets like this, because you're making everyone's lives worse. Anarchy is fucking retarded.

I know this isn't really a serious question, but afaik the field does have a very significant bias problem in the US.
These videos give a good overview of the issue. The first video is most important, since it explains how this can seep into ethics research and result in unjust moral generalisations.
(You can just go to the studies via the descriptions if you don't want the guided tour/understandably mind the the presentation.)

One question that I do have every time this comes up is what if the discipline itself pushes people towards one viewpoint. Left and right aren't just two teams to be assumed to have equally valid positions on every issue. With the kind of topics sociologists investigate into, I hardly see how one wouldn't be inclined to wind up on the "left."
Another example is how economics studies biases people. You'll find most economists are pretty strongly in the center. More precisely it puts them towards neoliberalism. This isn't because they're some cabal that forced out everyone who disagrees with them, but it's because the research they do tends them towards that viewpoint. They social views follow from that perspective too, just like how many sociologists become just flat-out anti-capitalist regarding economics as a result of them studying social issues.

I don't think you'd be happy if you saw this exact same post but about antifa
"Look, they aren't a bunch of pseudo-terrorist shits. See, I have this antifa statement to prove otherwise!"
a guy dressed in an American flag fighting a guy dressed in communist flags
what an age

All that is actually addressed in those videos. What's highlighted aren't general moral issues, but methodology issues that hide discrimination.
(The videos are totally unaligned politically, afaict. This is coming from a left-winger too mind you; I just really dislike prejudice and bad science.)
I'd really prefer if you checked out the specific thing being posted at all before alleging bias (even bias to neutrality, as you mentioned) or deflecting to moral superiority in response to a particular post.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Maybe that was a bit too angry. I get easily pissed off about people who let their preconceptions blind them to the point they ignore the answer to very questions they reply with, but I suppose usually when someone posts an anti-left video here it's some socially conservative thinkpiece that's full of bias itself. I can understand why you don't want to waste your time with yet another of those, but this one really doesn't fall into that category.
Trump supporters deserve to be shot and sarin gassed, and so does antifa. This shit needs to fucking stop.

Can we not suggest even more politically motivated violence and war crimes even in jest, please?
Maybe I watch too much world news for my own good, but I really can't find things like this funny at this point.

What the fuck is wrong with you. Why does it always have to come down to violence.

Talk about solving violence with the immediate escalation of violence.
while the title is accurate, i find the entire video funny
It's funny how the guy who gets unmasked just frantically runs to his friends in black and sticks his hands out to the guy with the Captain America shirt like "please don't hit me". Antifa are such a bunch of useless pussies lmao
Can someone give me a quick TL;DR on who these people are and why are they acting like this
Can someone give me a quick TL;DR on who these people are and why are they acting like this
Emotionally charged people who really hate Trump and anyone supports him, and aren't afraid to label anyone that disagrees with them as Nazis or enablers to the current "fascist" regime they imagine.
Also they are far left and typically anarchist or communists who believe in radical revolutionary tactics to achieve their aims.
