Hey there guys! I've recently become addicted to a pretty unique and interesting band lately. They are called Steam Powered Giraffe, and, well, they are basically a steampunk band, if you wanna call them that. Their "gimmick" is that they are robots. You may be thinking "how dumb", but in reality it's FUCKING AWESOME. I really want to see them live because it'd be pretty damn interesting
Here are a few of their songs:

They are not very popular or well known, but I think they are an amazing band who can write some pretty awesome shit, and I'm not usually one for "themed" music(such as Pirate/Viking Metal)
man steam punk is stupid
music is alright? not very interesting or unique by any means. musically very unoriginal.
the fact that the vocalist sings using a headset is kinda a giveaway that they are not very good
not really digging this. music seems pretty boring and unoriginal to me and they mainly focus on their robot gimmick.
So they sound like some boring brit pop rock band with no redeeming qualities other than that they look like retards?
Okay.
the pug, chihuahua and red star thing was so lol xD randum

that was actually a rly clever remark on communism
hardly clever
so wacky xD
I can dig the music, but these guys seem like performers first and musicians second.
I don't have a problem with themed music, but I am tired of Steampunk itself, people just stick to shit way too fucking much. Now people could do the whole robot thing and it would be fine (i.e. Kraftwerk, Daft Punk) except here it's limiting the band, the guy has to use a fucking headset because I bet he keeps doing robotic gestures live or something.
I want to like these guys ( because my girlfriend likes them, so why not.) and as I said the music is alright, it just seems like it should have come out in the early seventies maybe? I don't know it just sounds dated. And I can't find much substance in it, but it doesn't burn my ears or anything.

also my ladyfriend has informed me that one of the guys has split for the band or something.
What the guy above me said... My girlfriend has been talking about these guys forever. And honestly, I really liked Honeybee until I saw them and was just. wat.
Their music is okay, but the themedness makes it seem gimmicky.
Also, is it just me or can anyone else see the band being like... The vocalist is the only one who is reeeeeeeeally into acting like a robot? :v
Yeah it's probably just the vocalist's thing
I have no problem with themed bands (e.g. every folk metal band ever) but the music have to fit the theme otherwise it makes no sense.
I'd expect a "steampunk" band to make industrial chamber music or something, not generic pop rock.
